MMTC 1KXS-CC NEMA 4 Exterior Tamperproof Open-Close Stop Key Switch with Changeable Core - Surface Mount
The MMTC 1KXS-CC NEMA 4 Exterior Tamperproof Open-Close Stop Key Switch with Changeable Core - Surface Mount is a technician-grade MMTC keyed control station used where access to an operator or control circuit must be limited to authorized keyholders. It is most often selected for gate operators, commercial overhead doors, rolling doors, industrial door operators, and equipment control points that accept external key-switch command wiring. The important detail with this part is not just the enclosure size - it is the combination of switch action, cylinder style, stop-button function, and mounting format. A similar-looking MMTC station can have a different contact action or a different keying format, which can cause ordering problems if the part number is matched only by appearance. This model should be matched to the wiring diagram and the facility keying requirement before installation.
For service replacement, this product is best identified by the MMTC part number, the required operator command function, and the cylinder/core type. In the field, these key switches are usually tied into low-voltage control terminals, but the installer should still follow the operator manual and applicable electrical requirements. If the existing station is damaged, weathered, sticking, missing keys, or no longer matching the property key system, replacing it with the correct MMTC configuration helps restore secure keyed control without changing the operator itself.
Compatible With
- Select commercial operators, gate controllers, and industrial door circuits with dry-contact OPEN, CLOSE, STOP, and COMMON inputs where a changeable-core keyed station is required. Related to the MMTC 1KXS open-close-stop surface-mount family but not automatically interchangeable with other cylinder styles.
- Related MMTC key-switch families may share similar control-station use, but the exact switch action, stop-button requirement, cylinder style, enclosure type, and mounting format must match the job.
- Common applications include gated properties, commercial overhead doors, rolling steel doors, industrial doors, loading areas, secured service entrances, equipment rooms, and access-control interfaces that are wired for external keyed control.

Technician Note
This is the changeable-core version. Verify whether the job needs CC, BC, SLF, or standard cylinder hardware before ordering. When replacing a key switch, take a photo of the existing wiring and terminal markings before removal. Similar MMTC stations can use different contact actions even when the enclosure looks nearly identical.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Confirm the existing MMTC part number or the required control-station function.
- Match the switch action: open-close center return, open-close with stop, on-off maintained, or hold open-close.
- Verify the cylinder/core type: standard mortise, Best/equivalent, changeable core, or S-Type Large Format.
- Check the enclosure and mounting style against the original station or project plan.
- Review the operator wiring diagram before connecting any open, close, stop, or common terminals.
Professional Advisory
Key switches are control devices, not safety devices. Do not use this product to bypass monitored photo eyes, sensing edges, entrapment protection, or any required UL 325 safety equipment. If the operator wiring is damaged, high-voltage wiring is exposed, or the gate/door moves unpredictably, have the installation checked by a qualified gate or garage door technician.
Product Questions and Answers
What does the MMTC 1KXS-CC control?
The MMTC 1KXS-CC provides keyed open and close commands plus a separate stop button for compatible control circuits with OPEN, CLOSE, STOP, and COMMON terminals.
Is the 1KXS-CC a maintained switch?
No. The key portion is a center-return open-close control for momentary command input. It is not the same as a maintained 1KXL on-off switch.
Can 1KXS-CC be used on a gate operator?
It may be used with select gate operators and commercial door operators that support the required dry-contact open, close, and stop wiring. Verify the operator wiring diagram before installation.
They are related 1KXS family products, but the cylinder or core style differs. Match the facility keying system and exact part number before ordering.
Does the stop button replace safety devices?
No. A stop button is a control input and must not be used to bypass required monitored photo eyes, edges, or other safety devices.
