MMTC HBFSX Exterior Open-Close Key Switch With Stop Button In Single Gang Back Box Flush Mount
The MMTC HBFSX is an exterior-rated flush-mount Open-Close key switch station with an integrated stop button for controlled operation of compatible commercial door, gate, grille, and access-control equipment. It is commonly used where the owner wants the open and close commands available only to authorized personnel with the proper key, such as service entrances, warehouse overhead doors, rolling shutters, secured parking gates, loading areas, and equipment rooms.
This model mounts in a single gang back box and uses a stainless steel faceplate for a clean, professional control-station finish. The key switch provides center-return Open and Close command control, so the operator receives a momentary command when the key is turned and then returns to neutral. The integrated stop button gives the user a separate stop command at the same station when the connected operator supports a proper Stop circuit.
Correct selection depends on more than the basic Open-Close function. The installer should match the part number to the indoor or outdoor location, cylinder/keying style, back box depth, faceplate size, and the operator control terminals. A similar-looking MMTC key switch may use a different cylinder family or include a stop button, so verify the installed control requirements before ordering replacement parts.
Compatible With
The MMTC HBFSX is not limited to one opener model. It is used as a keyed command station where the connected controller provides compatible command inputs. Always confirm the operator wiring diagram before installation.
- Commercial overhead door operators with separate OPEN and CLOSE control inputs
- Gate operators or access-control panels with dry-contact OPEN and CLOSE command terminals
- Rolling steel door, counter door, grille, and industrial door control circuits where a keyed Open/Close station is required
- Interior or exterior control stations when the installed operator wiring diagram supports a maintained enclosure-mounted key switch
- Applications using 3-wire or low-voltage control wiring where the operator manufacturer allows a keyed command station
- Operator control circuits that include a separate STOP input or stop pushbutton circuit
- Commercial door stations where Open, Close, and Stop functions are required at the same location
- Access-controlled entrances where a keyed station must command movement and a red stop button must interrupt travel

Technician Note
When replacing an existing key switch, do not rely on the faceplate alone. Check whether the old station has a stop button, whether the switch is interior or exterior rated, and whether the facility uses a mortise, Best/equivalent, changeable core, or S-Type large format cylinder. If the operator uses monitored safety inputs, this key switch does not replace or bypass those devices.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Confirm the exact MMTC part number on the old station or parts list.
- Verify the cylinder/keying style required by the property.
- Check whether the location requires an interior NEMA 1 or exterior-style station.
- Confirm whether a stop button is required at this station.
- Compare the back box size, wall cutout, faceplate dimensions, and wiring diagram.
Professional Advisory
Key switches should be installed as command devices only. Do not use this product to defeat photo eyes, sensing edges, monitored entrapment protection, interlocks, or required emergency stop circuits. If the existing wiring is damaged, high voltage is present, or the operator behaves unpredictably, have the system checked by a qualified gate or commercial door technician.
Product Questions & Answers
What is the MMTC HBFSX used for?
The MMTC HBFSX is used as a keyed Open-Close control station for compatible commercial door, rolling door, grille, and gate operator control circuits. It is intended for command control only and must be wired according to the operator wiring diagram.
Does the MMTC HBFSX include a stop button?
Yes. This model includes an integrated stop pushbutton, so the connected operator must have a proper Stop input or compatible stop circuit.
What cylinder style does the MMTC HBFSX use?
This version is supplied for a mortise cylinder. Match the cylinder style to the facility keying system before ordering, especially when Best, changeable core, or S-Type large format cylinders are required.
Can the MMTC HBFSX be used on any gate or garage door operator?
It may be used with operators or access-control panels that provide compatible Open and Close control inputs and a Stop input. It should not be selected by brand alone; confirm the wiring diagram, voltage class, and command terminal layout.
Is the MMTC HBFSX a safety device?
No. This key switch is a command/control device. It does not replace monitored photo eyes, safety edges, entrapment protection, or required emergency stop and safety circuits.
