SECO-LARM Enforcer E-931-S45RRQ 45Ft Reflective Photoelectric Beam Sensor
The SECO-LARM ENFORCER E-931-S45RRQ is a non-monitored retro-reflective photoelectric beam sensor used to detect when a vehicle, person, or object breaks the infrared path between the sensor and its reflector. Unlike a through-beam sensor, a reflective photoeye mounts the active sensor on one side and a reflector on the opposite side, which can simplify wiring on gate entrances, garage doors, loading areas, and entry-notification points. The E-931-S45RRQ is rated for up to 45 ft (14 m) when the sensor and reflector are mounted squarely, the reflector stays clean, and the beam path remains clear. This model is commonly used for detection and access-control inputs, but it should not be assumed to satisfy monitored UL325 safety requirements on newer gate operators. For gate operators, compatibility is not just about range. The installer must match the voltage, contact output, monitoring method, weather rating, and the exact way the operator expects the photoeye to behave.
Compatible With
Common Applications
- Sliding and swing gate entrances where a reflective photoeye layout is appropriate
- Garage door, driveway, vehicle approach, parking-distance, entry-alert, and industrial automation sensing
- Access-control panels or gate operators that accept the sensor voltage and output style
- Indoor or outdoor installations within the listed sensing range and environmental rating
Related SECO-LARM Reflective Photoeye Family
- E-931-S50RRGQ - 50 ft monitored reflective sensor for select UL325 gate applications
- E-931-S33PRGQ - 33 ft polarized monitored reflective sensor for shiny-object detection
- E-931-S45RRQ - 45 ft non-monitored retro-reflective sensor with wide voltage input
- E-931-S35RRQ - related 35 ft reflective photoelectric beam sensor
- E-931-S50RRLQ - related large 50 ft reflective beam sensor
Compatibility Notes
- Match the exact model to the gate operator manual, especially when the operator requires monitored safety devices
- Reflective sensors require a clean reflector and proper mounting angle; they are not the same layout as transmitter/receiver through-beam sets
- Polarized and non-polarized reflective sensors should not be substituted without checking the application
- Use the correct sensor for voltage range, relay/contact output, and required monitoring method

Technician Note
Reflective sensors are convenient because only one side usually needs the active wiring, but alignment is still critical. Mount the reflector on a rigid surface, keep it clean, and make sure the beam is not aimed where sunlight, water spray, vegetation, or gate movement can cause nuisance trips.
Important Ordering Warnings
- Do not bypass or defeat a photoeye input to keep a gate or door operating.
- Monitored and non-monitored photoeyes are not automatically interchangeable.
- Reflective sensors need a clear line between the sensor and reflector; a loose reflector can cause intermittent failures.
- This RRQ style sensor should not be assumed to meet monitored UL325 gate safety requirements unless the operator documentation confirms it.
Before Ordering
- Confirm the exact SECO-LARM part number and suffix.
- Measure the required sensing distance and compare it to the rated range.
- Verify the control board voltage and expected relay or monitored input type.
- Confirm whether the gate operator requires monitored photoeyes.
- Check the mounting surface for vibration, alignment angle, and weather exposure.
Professional Advisory
Gate and garage door safety devices should be tested after installation. If the operator requires monitored UL325 protection or shows a safety fault, use a qualified technician to verify wiring, alignment, and controller programming.
Product Questions & Answers
What is the sensing range of the E-931-S45RRQ?
The E-931-S45RRQ is rated up to 45 ft (14 m) when the sensor and reflector are installed correctly and the beam path stays clean and clear.
Is this a through-beam or reflective sensor?
This is a reflective sensor. The active photoeye and reflector face each other, instead of using a separate powered transmitter and receiver on both sides.
Can this be used on a gate operator?
It may be used on select gate operators when the voltage, relay or monitored output, and operator safety requirements match the installation.
Why does the reflector matter?
The sensor must see a clean return from the reflector. A dirty, loose, angled, or undersized reflector can cause false trips or a sensor fault.
Can I replace another SECO-LARM photoeye with this one?
Only if the range, voltage, output, monitoring method, and physical layout match. Similar SECO-LARM photoeyes can have different safety ratings and wiring requirements.
