AWID MR-1824-G-MP, MR-1824, Gray, AWID Logo, Medium Range Reader, 18-24 in.
The AWID MR-1824-G-MP is part of the Sentinel-Prox MR-1824 medium-range reader family used on access-control and gate-control systems where standard close-range card readers do not give enough reach. In practical gate work, MR-1824 readers are often used at parking entrances, community access lanes, commercial yards, secured drive lanes, and vehicle gates where a driver presents a compatible AWID card or tag from the vehicle window or from a pedestal position.
This row is for the standard gray AWID logo configuration. That distinction matters because the MR-1824 family includes standard readers, metal-compensated readers for selected metal mounting conditions, and HiLo two-reader arrangements for lanes that need two presentation heights. Read distance is affected by credential type, voltage, mounting material, nearby metal, cable routing, and local electrical conditions. The safest replacement approach is to match the exact AWID part number and confirm whether the original installation used standard, MC, HiLo, or HiLoMC hardware.
Compatible With
Use this reader with compatible AWID proximity credentials, supported access-control panels, and the correct MR-1824 mounting/power configuration. Common compatible applications include:
- Access-control and gate-control systems that accept standard Wiegand reader input
- AWID Sentinel-Prox / Prox-Linc proximity credentials encoded for the site controller
- Vehicle access, parking facilities, gate pedestals, community entries, commercial sites, and controlled drive lanes
- Reader installations requiring approximately 18 to 24 inch medium-range presentation distance
- Non-metal or low-metal mounting locations where the standard MR-1824 reader can maintain read range
- Systems using an external regulated DC power supply suitable for MR-1824 operation
- Not a direct replacement for UHF windshield-tag readers, long-range readers, or unrelated credential technologies

Technician Note
MR-1824 readers are sensitive to power supply and mounting conditions. For best field results, confirm the reader has a suitable external regulated DC power source, keep cable routing clean, and do not mount the standard version directly against metal unless the correct metal-compensated model is specified.
Before Ordering
- Confirm the exact MR-1824 variant shown on the original reader or parts documentation.
- Confirm the controller accepts the reader output and the AWID credential format used on site.
- Confirm the required read height and lane layout before selecting standard or HiLo versions.
- Confirm whether the reader is mounted on metal, near metal, or on a non-metal surface.
- Confirm the external regulated power supply is sized for MR-1824 operation.
Professional Advisory
Access-control reader wiring and controller programming should be performed by a qualified access-control or gate technician when the site wiring, reader format, power supply, or controller inputs are not already confirmed. Do not bypass gate safety devices or use the reader wiring as a substitute for required monitored entrapment protection.
Important Ordering Warnings
- Standard MR-1824 and metal-compensated MR-1824MC versions should not be mixed without reviewing the mounting surface and range requirements.
- HiLo versions are two-reader configurations and should not be treated as the same item as a single MR-1824 reader.
Product Questions and Answers
What is the main use for the MR-1824-G-MP?
It is used for medium-range AWID proximity reading in gate-control, parking, and access-control applications where a standard wall reader may not provide enough presentation distance.
What read range should I expect?
The MR-1824 family is commonly specified around 18 to 24 inches, but actual range depends on the credential, power supply, mounting surface, nearby metal, and site conditions.
Does this reader need a separate power supply?
MR-1824 installations commonly use a properly matched external regulated DC power supply. Do not assume the access panel reader port can supply the required current without checking the manual and panel rating.
What is the difference between standard and metal-compensated MR-1824 readers?
The metal-compensated version is intended for selected metal mounting conditions. A standard reader may lose range when installed too close to metal.
Can this reader be used with any access-control panel?
It may be used with panels that accept the supported reader output and credential format, but the site controller, facility code, bit format, and wiring must all match.
