MMTC HBF Nema 1 Interior Open-Close Key Switch In Single Gang Back Box Flush Mount
The MMTC HBF Nema 1 Interior Open-Close Key Switch In Single Gang Back Box Flush Mount is a keyed open-close control station used to send manual command signals to compatible gate operators, garage door operators, commercial overhead door operators, rolling door controls, and access-control panels that accept dry-contact input. It is built for installations where authorized personnel need keyed operation instead of, or in addition to, a push-button station, keypad, card reader, or radio control. The center-return design lets the operator receive a momentary OPEN or CLOSE command, then returns the key to the neutral position when released.
This model is part of the MMTC HBF key-switch family. The fitment details that matter most are the mounting style, application rating, cylinder type, faceplate size, back-box size, and whether the installation requires a separate stop button. The HBF version uses mortise cylinder and is listed as nema 1 interior single-gang flush mount. It does not include a dedicated stop button, so it is normally selected for simple open-close keyed command applications where a separate stop station is not required at this device.
Use this part when the existing installation calls for the same MMTC model number or when the operator wiring diagram confirms that a momentary dry-contact key switch is suitable for the OPEN, CLOSE, and COMMON control terminals. It is a command accessory only; it does not replace monitored photo eyes, sensing edges, reversing devices, entrapment protection, or emergency disconnect hardware.

Compatible With
Compatible with low-voltage operator control circuits that accept a dry-contact open and close command from a keyed station. Common applications include commercial overhead door operators, rolling door controls, parking gate controls, residential or commercial gate operators, dock door controls, and access-control systems where the board provides separate OPEN, CLOSE, and COMMON terminals. Verify the operator wiring diagram before connecting because these are command stations, not radio receivers, monitored safety devices, or complete open-close-stop control stations unless the model includes the stop button.
- MMTC HBF flush-mount key-switch family installations using the same faceplate and back-box format.
- Related MMTC key-switch families and variants: HBF, HBF-BC, HBF-CC, HBF-SLF, HBFS, HBFS-BC, HBFS-CC, HBFS-SLF, HBFT, HBFST, HBFX, HBFSX.
- Gate and door operators with separate low-voltage OPEN, CLOSE, and COMMON control inputs.
- Access-control and security installations that require keyed manual command control at a controlled opening.
- Replacement jobs where the existing station label, parts list, or door/gate schedule calls for HBF.
Compatibility note: Match the exact cylinder type and stop-button requirement before ordering. Best/equivalent, changeable core, S-Type large format, and standard mortise cylinder versions are not the same keyed-control configuration.
Also Known As / Related Part Numbers
HBF, MMTC-HBF, HBF-MORTISE, HBF-BC, HBF-CC, HBF-SLF, HBFS, HBFX, single gang key switch, TSD-1/FLUSH.
Related numbers are included for search and parts-family reference. Do not treat another cylinder type, surface-mount version, or stop-button version as an exact replacement unless the site requirements and parts diagram confirm it.
Technician Note
When replacing an MMTC key switch, remove the old station only after confirming the existing wire functions. OPEN, CLOSE, COMMON, and STOP wiring can vary by operator manufacturer and by control-board generation. If the old station has a stop circuit, do not replace it with a no-stop model unless the overall control system still meets the required stop and safety layout.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Confirm the MMTC part number on the existing key switch or job documentation.
- Match exterior versus interior use and flush-mount back-box size.
- Match the cylinder style: mortise, Best/equivalent, changeable core, or S-Type large format.
- Confirm whether a separate stop button is required at this station.
- Verify the operator accepts a momentary dry-contact open-close command.
- Do not substitute this accessory for required safety sensors, edges, or monitored entrapment protection.
Professional Advisory
Use this key switch only on the control terminals specified by the operator manufacturer. Do not use it to bypass photo eyes, sensing edges, monitored entrapment protection, emergency stop circuits, interlocks, or other required safety devices. For high-voltage wiring or uncertain terminals, use a qualified gate or garage door technician.
Product Q&A
Is the MMTC HBF a universal key switch?
It may be used with many operators that accept dry-contact open-close command inputs, but it is not universal. Match the wiring terminals, mounting style, stop-button requirement, and cylinder type before ordering.
Does the HBF include a stop button?
No. This version is an open-close center-return key switch without a separate stop button.
What cylinder type does the HBF use?
This model is supplied for mortise cylinder applications. Match this to the building key system or existing cylinder/core requirement.
Can this MMTC key switch replace a different MMTC model?
Only if the mounting, cylinder type, stop-button function, enclosure/application rating, and wiring requirements match. Related MMTC models in the HBF family may look similar but can be different electrically or mechanically.
Can I wire the HBF myself?
Low-voltage control wiring should follow the operator diagram. If the wiring is high-voltage, unlabeled, tied into a stop/safety circuit, or part of a commercial operator control panel, a qualified technician should handle the work.
