MMTC HBFT-SLF Nema 1 Interior Tamperproof Open-Close S Type Large Format Cylinder Key Switch In Single Gang Back Box Flush Mount
The MMTC HBFT-SLF is a commercial keyed control station for openings that need controlled manual open and close operation. Instead of leaving a push button available to anyone passing by, this station requires the proper key or core system before an open or close command can be sent to the operator. It is commonly used on gated entrances, commercial overhead doors, service bay doors, parking facilities, maintenance gates, and restricted equipment areas where authorized access and simple local control are both needed.
This model uses a s-type large format (slf) cylinder and is built for flush mount, single gang back box use in indoor or protected interior locations. The open-close switch is a center-return style, meaning the key is turned momentarily to send a command and then returns to center rather than staying latched in one direction. This version does not include a stop button, so it should be used only where the local station is meant to provide keyed open and close commands without a separate stop control.
Correct fitment matters because MMTC key switches are offered in many similar-looking versions. A Best/equivalent cylinder model, changeable core model, SLF large-format cylinder model, standard mortise cylinder model, stop-button model, non-stop model, flush-mount station, and surface-mount NEMA 4 station can all look close in a parts search but solve different field problems. Before replacing a station, compare the old faceplate or enclosure, the lock cylinder family, the back-box depth, the number of switch functions, and the operator terminals being used.
The tamperproof stainless steel faceplate with deeper single gang back box is intended to provide a durable command point for commercial use, and tamper-resistant construction helps protect the switch mechanism from casual access or abuse. This part is a control accessory, not an entrapment-protection device. Safety devices, photo eyes, edge sensors, and required monitored protection must remain installed and working according to the operator manufacturer instructions and current site requirements.

Compatible With
The MMTC HBFT-SLF may be used with select commercial gate operators, commercial overhead door operators, commercial garage door operators, parking-control equipment, and access-control panels that accept external open and close dry-contact command inputs. It is commonly associated with installations using LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Linear, OSCO, All-O-Matic, DoorKing, Viking Access, FAAC, HySecurity, Nice/Apollo, Ramset, and similar commercial operator control boards when the terminal functions and voltage class match the key-switch wiring method. It is best used where the opening has separate open and close command inputs and does not require a local stop pushbutton at this station.
This type of key switch should be selected by application, not only by the visible faceplate. Verify the existing part number, enclosure depth, mounting method, cylinder family, number of command functions, weather exposure, and whether a stop button is required. For public, exterior, or wet locations, do not substitute an interior NEMA 1 station for an exterior-rated or NEMA 4 surface-mount station.
- Commonly used for manual open-close control stations at gates, rolling doors, sectional commercial doors, loading docks, service entrances, maintenance rooms, and secured parking areas.
- Works with systems that provide appropriate low-voltage control terminals for external command devices.
- Not a universal high-voltage disconnect, radio receiver, keypad, or safety device.
- Not intended to bypass monitored photo eyes, edge sensors, entrapment protection, or required operator safety circuits.

Technician Note
When replacing an MMTC HBFT-SLF, do not order by appearance alone. The most common mistakes are selecting the wrong cylinder family, choosing a flush-mount unit for a surface-mount opening, replacing a stop-button station with a non-stop version, or using an interior NEMA 1 product where an exterior weather-resistant station is needed. Label the existing wires before removal and confirm which terminals are common, open, close, and stop on the operator control board.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Confirm the old part number or the exact cylinder type required by the property key system.
- Verify whether the station must include a stop button.
- Confirm flush mount versus surface mount and compare the available box depth.
- Check whether the location is interior, protected exterior, or exposed weather.
- Confirm that the operator or controller accepts external dry-contact open-close control.
- Inspect local safety devices and do not use a key switch to work around a safety problem.
Professional Advisory
Control wiring is usually low voltage, but many gate and commercial door operators also contain high-voltage power circuits. If the enclosure has damaged wiring, water intrusion, shorted controls, unreliable gate movement, or missing safety devices, have the system inspected by a qualified gate or commercial door technician before returning it to service.
Product Q&A
Is the MMTC HBFT-SLF a universal key switch?
The MMTC HBFT-SLF is not universal by part number alone. It may be used with many operators that accept external open-close dry-contact commands, but the cylinder type, mounting style, stop-button requirement, enclosure rating, and wiring terminals must match the installation.
What cylinder type does the MMTC HBFT-SLF use?
This version uses a S-Type Large Format (SLF) cylinder. Match this to the facility keying system before ordering, especially when comparing standard mortise, Best/equivalent, changeable core, and SLF large-format versions.
Does the MMTC HBFT-SLF include a stop button?
No. This model is an open-close key switch without a stop button. Do not use it to replace a station that requires a local stop control unless the control layout has been reviewed.
Can this key switch be used outdoors?
This product is listed as Interior NEMA 1. Use exterior or NEMA 4 versions for outdoor or exposed locations, and avoid substituting an interior NEMA 1 station where weather protection is required.
What should be checked before replacing an MMTC HBFT-SLF?
Check the old part number, faceplate or enclosure size, back-box depth, cylinder family, wire functions, and whether the station controls a gate, commercial door, or access-control input.
