Security Brands 27-230 Edge E3 SecurePass Smart Keypad and Card Reader
The Security Brands 27-230 Edge E3 SecurePass is a post-mount smart keypad and card reader for gate and door access-control applications. It combines keypad entry, SecurePass proximity card access, Bluetooth app programming, onboard programming, and relay control in one access device.
This model is designed for installations where the customer wants both keypad codes and proximity card access without installing two separate front-end devices. It is a good fit for driveway gates, pedestrian gates, employee entrances, service yards, private roads, storage areas, parking gates, business gates, and access-controlled doors where a stand-alone smart keypad and reader are preferred.
The Edge E3 SecurePass offers the simplicity of a keypad and card reader at the entry point, but adds app-based programming and management through the Edge Smart Keypad app. A technician or administrator can connect to the unit by Bluetooth to update programming, sync data, export event reports, and manage the system without standing at the keypad for every change.
The 27-230 SecurePass version includes a Security Brands SecurePass proximity reader. This is an important ordering detail because the Edge E3 family is also available in other reader versions, including HID and Secura Key options. Do not assume cards or fobs from one credential family will work with another reader version. The credential type should be confirmed before the keypad is ordered.
The Edge E3 can control up to two compatible gates or doors when properly wired and configured. It includes relay control, event inputs, digital inputs, and one Wiegand input on the 27-230 model. The Wiegand input can be used for a compatible external reader or device where the wiring, protocol, distance, and power requirements are correct.
This unit supports Security Brands SBI Flex 64-bit and standard 26-bit Wiegand protocols. The SBI Flex protocol allows flexible keypad-code structure, while standard 26-bit Wiegand support helps with common access-control layouts. Always confirm the credential format, reader setup, and any connected Wiegand device before promising compatibility.
The Edge E3 SecurePass is not a cellular telephone entry system and it is not a cloud-managed Ascent product. It does not call residents, manage a tenant directory, use Summit Control cellular service, or replace an intercom. If the site needs visitor calling, cellular access management, touchscreen directory, or remote cloud administration, compare the Security Brands Ascent R1, X1, X2, M3, M8, C2, C4, or K2 products instead.

Compatible With
The Security Brands 27-230 Edge E3 SecurePass can be used with many gate operators, door controllers, and access-control devices that accept a compatible dry contact relay command. Final compatibility depends on the gate operator or door controller wiring diagram, relay input requirements, credential format, Wiegand device needs, power source, mounting location, and site wiring plan.

- Residential slide gate operators with a compatible open, radio, push-button, or access-control input
- Commercial swing gate operators with compatible dry contact access-control inputs
- Commercial slide gate operators with compatible dry contact access-control inputs
- Select barrier gate operators where relay-based keypad or card access is needed
- Select pedestrian gate controllers and door controllers where the relay rating and wiring are appropriate
- One-gate, two-gate, one-door, or two-door access-control layouts
- Security Brands SecurePass credential applications where the credential type matches the included reader
- Security Brands Edge Smart Keypad app for Bluetooth programming and management
- Compatible Wiegand readers or devices where the input, protocol, wiring, and power requirements match

Important: The Edge E3 SecurePass does not power or replace the gate operator. It sends access commands to a compatible gate operator, door controller, or lock controller. The gate operator, door controller, electric lock power supply, safety devices, emergency access equipment, and gate or door hardware must be selected and wired correctly for the site.
Not Intended For

Important Ordering Warnings
- Confirm the manufacturer model is 27-230.
- Confirm your store SKU or item number, such as SB-27-230, matches the Security Brands 27-230 Edge E3 SecurePass product.
- Confirm this is the SecurePass version, not 27-230HID or 27-230SK.
- Confirm the customer has or will use credentials compatible with the Security Brands SecurePass reader.
- Confirm whether the installation needs keypad-only, card-reader-only, or keypad-and-card-reader access.

Technician Note
The Edge E3 SecurePass is a local smart keypad and card reader. It is not the same as the Security Brands Ascent cellular line. Programming is handled at the unit or through a Bluetooth connection with the Edge Smart Keypad app. It does not use Summit Control, does not include cellular service, and does not provide remote cloud management by itself.
The main ordering question is credential type. This 27-230 model is the SecurePass reader version. If the customer already has HID credentials, review 27-230HID. If the customer uses Secura Key credentials, review 27-230SK. Do not assume one card family will work with another reader version.
Security Brands product information for this exact 27-230 model lists one Wiegand input. Some general Edge 27 Series material references Wiegand inputs with a model-dependent note, so use the model-specific 27-230 information when publishing this product page.
When wiring the relays, follow the gate operator or door controller manual. Do not wire the relay into high-voltage operator power or lock power beyond the relay rating. Keep low-voltage access-control wiring protected, labeled, and separated from high-voltage wiring where required.
The Edge E3 sends access-control commands only. It does not replace photo eyes, safety edges, loop detectors, emergency access devices, manual release equipment, or the gate operator control board. The gate or door system still needs its own proper safety and emergency-access setup.
Before Ordering, Confirm
- The required model is Security Brands Edge E3 SecurePass / 27-230.
- The store part number is SB-27-230 or the matching internal SKU used for this product.
- The customer needs the SecurePass reader version, not HID or Secura Key.
- The customer's cards or fobs are compatible with the included SecurePass reader.
- The application requires keypad access, card-reader access, or both.
- The application requires control for one or two gates or doors.
- The connected gate or door operator accepts a standard dry contact relay command.
- Any additional Wiegand reader or device is compatible with the available input and system design.
- The customer understands that app programming is by Bluetooth connection near the unit, not cellular cloud access.
- The mounting method is selected, such as gooseneck pedestal, post, wall, or column mounting.
- The power source matches the 12-24 VAC/DC input range or the included PS-12DC1 power supply.
- The gate operator safety devices, emergency access, fire access, and manual release equipment are properly handled separately.
Professional Advisory
The Security Brands 27-230 Edge E3 SecurePass should be installed by a qualified gate, access-control, or low-voltage technician when relay wiring, power supply wiring, Wiegand wiring, credential compatibility, pedestal mounting, app setup, or gate operator input wiring is not clearly understood.
Do not use this keypad and reader to bypass gate safety devices, monitored photo eyes, safety edges, loop detectors, stop circuits, emergency access devices, or required entrapment protection. The Edge E3 only provides access-control commands. Each gate operator or door system must still be installed, wired, and tested as a safe access system.
After installation, test every access method being used. Confirm keypad codes, SecurePass credentials, app programming, relay output, gate or door response, event reporting, timers, user permissions, emergency access, and gate safety-device response before turning the system over to the customer.
