AAS / Security Brand 58-RTE-S Touchless Request-to-Exit Station
The Security Brands 58-RTE-S is a touchless request-to-exit station built for hands-free access control egress. Instead of a mechanical push button, the station uses an infrared hand-wave sensor to trigger a relay output. That makes it useful at gated entries, pedestrian gates, lobby doors, vestibules, and access-controlled doors where users need a clean exit command without presenting a credential. The surface mount version is selected for the mounting style, while the electronics are part of the same Security Brands 58-RTE platform. Typical uses include sending a dry-contact request-to-exit signal to a gate operator, access controller, magnetic lock, or electric strike circuit. This device should be treated as an exit command device only; it does not replace monitored photo eyes, safety edges, fire access equipment, or code-required egress hardware.
Compatible With
- Security Brands 58-RTE touchless request-to-exit family
- Access control systems accepting a request-to-exit relay input
- Gate operators with a compatible open, exit, or radio/open command input
- Door controllers, mag lock power supplies, and electric strike circuits that use a proper RTE input
- Select Ascent, Edge, Advantage, RemotePro, and third-party access systems when wired to the correct input

Technician Note
This is an exit-command device, not an entrapment protection sensor. It may open or release a gate or door, but monitored safety photo eyes, safety edges, and code-required egress devices must remain in place where required.
Before Ordering
- Choose the correct mounting style: post, mullion, or surface mount.
- Confirm the controller or operator accepts the relay output being used.
- Verify available low-voltage power before ordering.
- Check whether the site requires a mechanical egress device, fire access device, or monitored safety device in addition to the RTE station.
- Do not use a touchless RTE as a substitute for UL325 monitored gate safety equipment.
Important Ordering Warnings
- Not a monitored UL325 safety device.
- Do not bypass gate or door safety equipment to install this station.
- Mounting style matters; post, mullion, and surface versions should not be chosen by part number alone.
Professional Advisory
Low-voltage access control wiring should be handled by a qualified installer when the RTE is tied into a gate operator, mag lock, electric strike, or shared access control panel.
Product Questions and Answers
What is the 58-RTE-S used for?
The 58-RTE-S is used to send a hands-free request-to-exit relay signal to a compatible gate operator, door controller, mag lock, electric strike, or access control panel.
Is this a safety photo eye?
No. It is a request-to-exit station and should not be used as a monitored gate safety photo eye or entrapment-protection device.
Can it work with a gate operator?
Yes, when the operator has a compatible exit or open command input and the station is powered and wired correctly.
Are 58-RTE-P, 58-RTE-M, and 58-RTE-S electrically similar?
Security Brands notes that the mullion and surface versions use the same electronics, wiring, and configuration as the 58-RTE-P; the main difference is the mounting format.
What should be checked before ordering?
Confirm the mounting style, low-voltage power, relay input, wiring path, and whether the site needs separate safety or code-required egress hardware.
