Security Brands 16-M8 Ascent M8 Touchscreen Entry System Details
The Security Brands 16-M8 Ascent M8 Cellular Multi-Tenant Entry System is a cellular multi-tenant telephone entry and access-control system for managed gates, doors, and community entry points. It is designed for properties that need directory-based visitor access, remote management, and modern credential options without relying on a traditional hardwired phone line.
This M8 model uses an 8 inch touchscreen directory interface with integrated proximity reader support on current materials. Confirm the exact model because Ascent X2, M3, and M8 systems differ in user interface, door count, Wiegand count, reader configuration, and installation intent.
What This System Does
The Ascent M8 lets a visitor search or enter a directory code, call an authorized resident or contact, and request access. Authorized users can also be managed through Summit Control and may use app, text, voice, keypad, QR code, and reader-based access depending on the site setup.
- Cellular multi-tenant entry and access-control system
- Summit Control cloud-based management
- Visitor calling with resident directory functions
- App, text, voice, keypad, and GuestPass QR access methods
- Control of up to 4 gates or doors where wired and configured correctly
- 4 Wiegand input support for compatible readers or devices
- integrated proximity card reader
- Event and status notifications where configured
Compatible With
- Gated communities and HOA entrances
- Apartment and condominium entry points
- Commercial properties with controlled vehicle or pedestrian access
- Compatible gate operators with dry-contact access-control inputs
- Compatible door strikes, maglocks, relays, or access-control hardware designed by a qualified technician
- Summit Control cellular service and account setup
- Sites with confirmed cellular coverage at the mounting location
Important Compatibility Warning
This is a system-design product, not a simple keypad swap. Confirm tenant count, directory needs, gate or door count, Wiegand readers, credential format, cellular coverage, service plan, mounting location, power, conduit, and relay wiring before ordering.
Similar Parts That Are Not Automatically Interchangeable

- Ascent K2 - cellular keypad access control without the same multi-tenant directory interface
- Ascent C2 or C4 - cellular controllers without the same entry panel interface
- Older AAS telephone entry systems - different wiring, cellular service, and programming platform
Not Intended For
- Simple single-family gate use where a basic keypad or receiver is enough
- Installations without reliable cellular coverage or service activation path
- Replacing an older entry system without checking wiring, mounting, and directory requirements
- Bypassing fire access, emergency access, photo eyes, safety edges, or door life-safety hardware
- High-voltage gate operator repair or power wiring
- Sites where the required tenant count or credential format is unknown

Installation and Service Notes
Installation should be handled by a qualified access-control, gate, or low-voltage technician. The work may involve cellular setup, low-voltage power, relay outputs, Wiegand wiring, directory programming, resident data, and gate or door hardware integration.
Professional Advisory
For South Florida communities, confirm cellular coverage at the pedestal or wall location before finalizing the system. Concrete structures, metal gate columns, landscape walls, and equipment enclosures can affect signal quality.
Product Questions & Answers
What is the Security Brands 16-M8 Ascent M8 used for?
The 16-M8 Ascent M8 is used for cellular multi-tenant entry and access control at compatible gated communities, apartments, commercial properties, and controlled entry points.
How many gates or doors can the 16-M8 control?
This model is commonly listed for control of up to 4 gates or doors when wired and configured correctly. Final capacity depends on the system design, relays, readers, and service plan.
Does this system require a landline?
No traditional landline is normally required because the Ascent platform uses cellular communication, but the site needs acceptable cellular coverage and active service.
Can residents receive visitor calls?
Yes. The Ascent multi-tenant platform supports visitor calling features such as directory calling and rollover calling where configured with resident information and service setup.
Can existing cards, fobs, or readers be reused?
Only if the reader type, credential format, Wiegand protocol, facility code, and wiring are compatible. Verify existing access credentials before assuming they will work.
What should be checked before installing this entry system?
Check cellular signal, power, pedestal or wall mounting, conduit, relay outputs, Wiegand wiring, resident database needs, service plan, emergency access, and gate or door safety requirements.
Can this system bypass gate safety devices?
No. Telephone entry and access-control outputs should never be used to bypass photo eyes, safety edges, fire access, emergency access, door life-safety hardware, or gate operator safety circuits.
What is the difference between the 16-M8 and the directory-insert X2?
The 16-M8 uses an 8 inch touchscreen interface, while the X2 uses a directory insert style. Choose by tenant count, visitor interface, gate or door count, reader needs, and property management requirements.
