AES MOD-2B, 2 Button Illuminated Module
The AES MOD-2B is a 2-button illuminated call module for select AES Global modular intercom and access-control systems. It is used where a compatible AES modular entry station needs two call buttons for residents, users, units, departments, gates, doors, or call destinations.
Public product information lists MOD-2B as an AES 2-button module for the modular series. It is commonly described as an optional add-on for customizable AES cellular, GSM, or wireless multi-button modular intercom systems. Because AES modular parts can look similar from the front of the panel, this module should be selected by part number, panel layout, button count, wiring connection, and system type.
What This 2 Button Module Does
The MOD-2B provides two illuminated call buttons for compatible AES modular intercom systems. In a properly configured installation, each button can be assigned to a user, apartment, resident, office, department, gate, door, or call destination depending on the AES system and programming.
This module works with the rest of the AES entry system, including the cellular, GSM, IP, DECT, or multi-button communication module, speaker/callpoint module, microphone circuit, power supply, relay outputs, gate or door release wiring, antenna or network connection, and site programming. It is a button module, not the complete intercom or controller.
Compatible With
This 2-button illuminated module may be used with the following applications where the current AES documentation, panel layout, or installer plan confirms fitment:
- Select AES Global modular intercom and access-control systems
- Select AES modular cellular or GSM intercom systems requiring a 2-button call module
- Select AES wireless multi-button intercom systems where MOD-2B is listed or specified
- Select AES modular multi-button panel configurations where a 2-button module is required
- Residential, commercial, apartment, gated community, multi-tenant, driveway gate, pedestrian gate, and controlled-entry stations using compatible AES modular hardware
- Repairs or upgrades where the original call-button module is marked, listed, or cross-referenced as MOD-2B
- Applications where the module opening, wiring harness, button wiring, label slots, and system programming match the AES installation plan
Important: Do not assume MOD-2B fits every AES intercom or every AES modular panel. Confirm the exact AES system, panel layout, button wiring, communication module, and programming requirements before ordering.
Similar Parts That Are Not Interchangeable
AES modular systems use several front-panel modules that may look similar once installed. A 2-button module, 1-button module, 3-button module, 4-button module, 5-button module, speaker/callpoint module, cellular module, keypad/prox module, information window, postal cutout, and blank module are different parts and should not be substituted without checking the AES parts documentation.
| Part / Component | Common Description | Interchangeability Note |

Not Intended For
- Use as a complete cellular, GSM, IP, DECT, video, or multi-button intercom system by itself
- Replacing a 4G cellular module, SIM card, antenna, power supply, relay board, speaker module, microphone, or network component
- Replacing a keypad, prox reader, speaker/callpoint module, postal cutout, illuminated information window, or blank module
- Replacing MOD-1B, MOD-3B, MOD-4B, MOD-5B, MOD-CP, or MOD-CP-1B where the panel requires those specific parts
- Non-AES panels unless the installer confirms physical, electrical, and wiring compatibility
- Correcting resident programming, SIM/account issues, weak cellular signal, relay wiring, or gate/door input faults
- Bypassing gate operator safety inputs, door release safeguards, fire access requirements, postal access requirements, or access-control security
Important Compatibility Warning
The AES MOD-2B should be ordered only when the AES modular panel layout and system documentation call for the 2-button illuminated module. A different button-count module, speaker/callpoint module, keypad/prox module, or cellular communication module may not be interchangeable even if it fits in the same modular system family.
If one or more buttons do not call correctly, check the main communication module, resident or user programming, button wiring, connector condition, 24V power where applicable, moisture, corrosion, SIM/account service, antenna signal, and relay/access-control setup before replacing the button module.

Technician Note
Before replacing the MOD-2B, confirm whether the issue is with the button module, the wiring, or the main AES communication module. A button that does not call may be caused by a failed button, loose harness, damaged connector, incorrect resident programming, disabled user, low power, moisture, corrosion, or a problem in the cellular/GSM/IP communication module.
Outdoor intercom modules commonly fail from water intrusion, corrosion, insects, damaged gaskets, loose wiring, and UV exposure. Inspect the panel seal, module gasket, label area, connector terminals, and wiring strain relief before installing the replacement module.
Before Ordering, Confirm
- The required part number is MOD-2B.
- The system is a compatible AES modular intercom installation.
- The panel layout requires a 2-button illuminated module.
- The module opening, button count, label-slot layout, wiring harness, and mounting style match the existing panel.
- The issue is not caused by the main cellular/GSM/IP/DECT module, power supply, SIM or network service, programming, relay wiring, moisture, or corrosion.
- The resident, user, department, gate, door, or unit assignment for each button has been confirmed in the AES system programming.
- The package contents are understood, including whether labels, harnesses, trim, mounting hardware, or instructions are included.
- The access-control relay, gate operator input, door strike, maglock, fire access, postal access, and safety devices are handled separately where needed.
Installation and Service Notes
- Disconnect power before installing or servicing the button module.
- Document all wiring, connector positions, label order, and button assignments before removing the existing module.
- Inspect the enclosure for water intrusion, corrosion, cracked seals, loose hardware, and damaged wiring.
- Do not force the module into a non-matching panel opening or enclosure.
- Confirm each button operates and calls the correct programmed user, resident, unit, or destination after installation.
- Verify illumination, label visibility, button feel, wiring strain relief, and panel sealing before closing the enclosure.
- Test visitor calling, two-way audio, remote release, relay output, keypad/prox functions where installed, schedules, and app or SMS programming where supported.
- Verify gate or door release operation without bypassing operator safety devices, door hardware protections, fire access requirements, or access-control safeguards.
Professional Advisory
The AES MOD-2B should be installed by a qualified access-control or gate technician familiar with AES modular intercom systems, low-voltage wiring, button circuits, resident programming, relay outputs, gate operator inputs, door release circuits, and site security requirements.
For apartment buildings, gated communities, commercial entries, and controlled access points, confirm the full access sequence before putting the system into service. Button call routing, visitor calling, two-way audio, keypad access, prox access, postal access, fire access, schedules, and gate or door release functions should all be tested without bypassing required safety or security devices.
Product Questions & Answers
What is the AES MOD-2B?
The AES MOD-2B is a 2-button illuminated call module for select AES modular intercom and access-control systems.
Is MOD-2B a complete intercom system?
No. MOD-2B is a call-button module. It does not replace the main cellular, GSM, IP, or DECT communication module, speaker module, power supply, antenna, relay wiring, enclosure, or full access-control system.
Does MOD-2B have illuminated buttons?
Yes. MOD-2B is commonly listed as a 2-button illuminated call module for compatible AES modular intercom systems.
Is MOD-2B the same as MOD-3B?
No. MOD-2B is the 2-button module. MOD-3B is the related 3-button module and should not be treated as the same part.
Can a button call problem be caused by something other than MOD-2B?
Yes. Button call problems can be caused by wiring, loose connectors, resident programming, low power, moisture, corrosion, the main communication module, SIM or network service, or relay/access-control setup.
What should be checked before replacing MOD-2B?
Check the AES system series, panel layout, wiring harness, button assignments, label order, main communication module, power supply, moisture, corrosion, and programming before replacing the module.
Should a technician install the MOD-2B?
Yes. Installation may involve low-voltage wiring, button circuits, resident programming, panel sealing, relay testing, and gate or door release verification, so it should be handled by a qualified access-control or gate technician.
