BEA 10EVOLOOP Virtual Loop Sensor Technical Details
The BEA 10EVOLOOP is a surface-mounted vehicle detection sensor developed for automatic rising-arm barriers. It uses 60 GHz Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave, or FMCW, radar to create configurable detection areas without cutting pavement or installing traditional in-ground loop wire. EVOLOOP can create up to three virtual loops within its detection field. Depending on the barrier application and programming, these zones may be used for vehicle presence, opening activation, passage acknowledgment, or protection near the barrier arm.
EVOLOOP is the alternative to traditional, in-ground induction
loops used for vehicle detection in parking, access, and security
applications.
Designed with a 140° field of view, EVOLOOP allows for up to
3 virtual loops that provide precise detection for control of the
barrier. Capable of triggering both the opening and closing of
the barrier, this solution is suitable for parking systems, ticketing,
biometric recognition, and license plate recognition cameras for
access control systems.
EVOLOOP is proven to reduce the risk of vehicle and pedestrian
collisions with the barrier arm in all types of environments and
weather conditions.
Installation is quick and easy with simple mounting and wiring
options along with an intuitive mobile app for programming.

What the EVOLOOP Does
The sensor measures objects within its radar field and activates the assigned output when a programmed target enters or remains inside a virtual loop. Presence loops can be configured for selected target types and travel directions, while protection loops respond to objects inside the configured protection area.
Two loop zones are preconfigured for the initial setup. A third loop can be added, and each zone can be adjusted independently to fit the lane, barrier arm, ticketing equipment, access-control equipment, or passage-control requirements.
Commonly Associated Applications
- Automatic rising-arm barrier gates
- Parking garage entrance and exit lanes
- Ticketing and payment barrier systems
- Toll and controlled-access lanes
- License plate recognition systems
- Biometric and credential-controlled barrier lanes

Compatible With
The BEA 10EVOLOOP may be used with select automatic barrier operators that can provide the required low-voltage power and accept one or more of the sensor's output types.
- Barrier controllers providing 12-30 VDC power
- Barrier controllers providing 12-24 VAC power
- Controllers accepting polarity-free electronic activation outputs
- Controllers accepting a common, normally open, or normally closed relay input

BEA does not publish a guaranteed barrier-operator model list for every application. Verify the operator wiring diagram, input function, power capacity, output logic, monitoring requirements, and intended use before ordering.
Important Compatibility and Safety Warning
EVOLOOP is designed specifically for automatic barrier applications. It should not automatically be ordered for a swing gate, slide gate, overhead door, or industrial door solely because that controller has a vehicle detector input.
The sensor is listed as conforming to EN 12453 Type D. This does not automatically mean that EVOLOOP is accepted as a monitored UL 325 entrapment-protection device by every barrier operator manufacturer in the United States.
Confirm whether the sensor will be used for activation, presence, passage acknowledgment, or protection. Never bypass required photo eyes, safety edges, operator monitoring circuits, emergency access equipment, or other required safety devices.

EVOLOOP Compared With a Traditional Induction Loop
- EVOLOOP: Mounts above ground and creates software-defined radar detection zones.
- Traditional loop: Requires loop wire installed in a saw-cut or preformed section of pavement and normally requires a separate loop detector.
- EVOLOOP: Can create up to three independently configured virtual loops from one sensor.
- Traditional loop: Each physical loop has a fixed shape and location after installation.
- EVOLOOP: Can be reconfigured through the mobile app without recutting pavement.
- Traditional loop: May still be preferred or required where the operator manufacturer specifies an approved inductive-loop system.
Package Contents
Current BEA instructions depict the EVOLOOP sensor, mounting base, sliding cover, plastic protective cover, cable and connector assembly, and a four-piece self-drilling screw pack. Packaging can change, so confirm current box contents when mounting hardware or cable length is critical.

Before Ordering Checklist
- Confirm the application uses an automatic rising-arm barrier.
- Verify that the sensor can be mounted approximately 12 to 27 inches above the roadway.
- Confirm that the detection field can remain clear of nearby metal obstructions.
- Verify the barrier controller can provide 12-30 VDC or 12-24 VAC power.
- Check the controller's available activation, presence, acknowledgment, and protection inputs.
- Confirm whether an electronic output or a common, normally open, or normally closed relay is required.
- Verify whether the operator manufacturer approves EVOLOOP for the intended safety function.
- Determine whether the standard base or an optional bracket or protective housing is required.
- Confirm that the 3-meter harness reaches the barrier controller.
- Check smartphone and Bluetooth access when mobile-app programming will be used.
Installation and Setup Notes
The sensor base should be mounted perpendicular to the barrier arm and as low as practical within the approved mounting range. When EVOLOOP is used for barrier-arm protection, BEA recommends positioning the sensor no more than approximately 19.7 inches from the boom.
The initial teach-in must be performed with the detection area clear and the barrier arm open. The sensor then learns the surrounding environment, the opening and closing movement of the barrier, and the lane or boom width.
Always complete a functional test after defining or changing a virtual loop. Test vehicles of different sizes and verify detection while approaching, stopping, and leaving the lane. Also check for unwanted response to cross traffic, pedestrians, moving gates, signs, vegetation, and nearby equipment.
Technician Note
EVOLOOP eliminates many pavement and loop-wire problems, but it is not a universal drop-in replacement for every loop detector. The controller must have compatible power and input terminals, and the sensor must be mounted where its radar field can properly cover the lane without being blocked by the barrier cabinet or nearby metal objects.
Professional Advisory
Barrier wiring, output programming, safety-device selection, and protection-zone setup should be completed by a qualified gate or access-control technician. Incorrect loop geometry, output assignments, or barrier teach-in can cause missed vehicles, nuisance activation, or unsafe arm movement.
Never use EVOLOOP programming to bypass required photo eyes, safety edges, emergency access equipment, warning devices, or monitored barrier safety circuits.
Product Questions and Answers
Is the BEA 10EVOLOOP a physical in-ground induction loop?
No. EVOLOOP is an above-ground 60 GHz radar sensor that creates programmable virtual detection zones without installing loop wire in the pavement.
How many virtual loops can one EVOLOOP sensor create?
One sensor can create up to three independently configurable virtual loops. Two loops are preconfigured for initial setup, and a third loop can be added for the application.
What automatic barrier operators are compatible with the 10EVOLOOP?
It may be used with select automatic barrier operators that provide 12-30 VDC or 12-24 VAC power and accept the sensor's electronic or relay outputs. Verify the operator wiring diagram and safety-device approval before ordering.
