Genie 110953.0001.S Brake Solenoid Kit, 115v Models MT / MJ / MH
The Genie 110953.0001.S is a factory replacement brake solenoid kit rated for 115VAC (nominal 120VAC) for Genie commercial door operators in the MT (medium-duty trolley), MJ (jackshaft), and MH (hoist) product family. The brake solenoid is the electromagnetic actuator that engages or releases the motor mechanical brake in response to operator control signals - energizing the coil releases the brake to allow motor rotation, and de-energizing resets the brake to hold the door in position. This kit is voltage-specific to 115V installations. The 230V sibling variant is 110954.0001.S. These two voltage variants are not interchangeable; using the wrong voltage solenoid will result in coil failure or improper brake operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can this solenoid kit be used on a 230V operator?
A: No. Part number 110953.0001.S is rated for 115V/120VAC only. The 230V equivalent is 110954.0001.S. Installing the wrong voltage solenoid will result in improper brake engagement and potential damage to the solenoid coil.
Q: Which Genie operator models is this brake solenoid kit compatible with?
A: This kit covers the MT (medium-duty trolley), MJ (jackshaft), and MH (hoist) series Genie commercial operators. It is not listed for use on J, H, GH, GT, or T series operators.
Q: How does the brake solenoid function within the operator?
A: The brake solenoid is an electromagnetic coil assembly that, when energized by line voltage, mechanically releases the motor brake allowing the operator to run. When power is removed, the solenoid de-energizes and the spring-set brake engages, stopping and holding the door.
Q: What are the symptoms of a failed brake solenoid on these operators?
A: Signs of a failed brake solenoid include the motor running but the door not moving (brake not releasing), the brake failing to hold the door when the operator is at rest, unusual humming or buzzing from the brake assembly, or visible coil burn damage.
Q: What does the .S suffix in the part number indicate?
A: The .S suffix denotes that this is a service/replacement kit part number as sold through Genie's parts distribution channel. The base number 110953.0001 references the same component.
