Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does TEFC mean and why does it matter for this motor?
A: TEFC stands for Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled. The motor housing is sealed against dust and moisture ingress, and an external fan mounted on the shaft provides cooling airflow over the exterior of the enclosure. This makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations, including environments with dust, debris, or occasional moisture exposure.
Q: What does the HX designation mean for this motor?
A: The HX suffix designates this motor as matched for Genie HX series high-cycle commercial operators, which are designed for high-frequency applications such as parking garages and loading docks. While the core electrical specifications are consistent with standard Genie 1HP 3PH TEFC motors, the HX variant is dimensionally and mechanically matched to HX operator mounting requirements and duty cycle demands.
Q: What voltages does this motor support and what are the full load amperage ratings?
A: This motor is rated for 208/230/460V three-phase power, which is field-selectable via internal wiring connections. At 208V or 230V the full load amperage is approximately 4A, and at 460V it is approximately 3A. Always verify the available supply voltage before wiring and configure the motor leads accordingly per the wiring diagram on the motor nameplate.
Q: What frame size does this motor use?
A: This motor uses a NEMA 56 frame, which is the standard frame size for 1HP commercial motors in the Genie product line. The NEMA 56 frame defines the shaft height, bolt pattern, and shaft diameter, ensuring dimensional compatibility with Genie HX operator mounting configurations.
Q: What is the difference between this motor and 111308.0003.S?
A: The closest non-HX equivalent is 111308.0003.S, which is a 1HP 3PH TEFC motor for standard Genie commercial operators. The HX-specific counterpart for 1/2HP 3PH TEFC is 111695.0001.S, and the 1HP 1PH TEFC HX equivalent is 111694.0002.S. Use 111695.0002.S only when replacing the original HX-designated motor to ensure proper fit and duty rating.
