Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does the governor kit 112648.0001.S do in the FDO fire door operator?
A: The governor kit controls the descent speed of a fire door during automatic closure in a fire emergency, ensuring a safe, controlled closing rate per fire code requirements. It is a critical safety component of the Genie FDO (Fire Door Operator) system.
Q: What other FDO components work with the governor kit?
A: Related FDO components include: FDO module 37803R.S, UVDM interface 38015R.S, FDO receiver 111397.0005.S, and FDO limit module 111421.0005.S. The governor works within this system to ensure safe automatic fire door operation.
Q: What are the key performance specifications of the Genie FDO operator?
A: The Genie FDO is designed for up to 30 cycles per hour, uses TensiBelt primary reduction, and complies with UL 325-2010. It automatically closes fire doors in response to fire emergencies to contain fire spread.
Q: Who should replace the governor on a Genie FDO operator?
A: Governor replacement should be performed by a qualified door systems technician familiar with fire door operator codes and requirements. Fire door operators must be maintained per NFPA 80 and local fire codes, and improper service can compromise life-safety compliance.
Q: What are the risks of a failed or worn governor on a fire door operator?
A: An improperly functioning governor can result in uncontrolled or excessively rapid fire door descent, creating a safety hazard and potential non-compliance with fire codes such as NFPA 80 and UL 325. Regular inspection and timely replacement are essential.
