Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between NEMA 7 and NEMA 9 ratings on this control board?
A: NEMA 7 covers Class I hazardous locations where flammable gases or vapors may be present (Groups A, B, C, and D), while NEMA 9 covers Class II locations where combustible dust is present (Groups E, F, and G). This board is rated for both, making it suitable for installations such as fuel depots, grain handling facilities, chemical plants, and mining sites.
Q: What does the kit designation mean for part number 38563R.S?
A: The 38563R.S is designed as a kit assembly, meaning it includes the control board and associated mounting hardware or enclosure components required for a compliant hazardous-location installation. It is intended as a replacement or upgrade control board kit for compatible Genie commercial gate operators in classified hazardous areas.
Q: Is there a compatible egress module for use with this board in hazardous locations?
A: Yes. Genie part 38423R.S is the companion Egress module designed for hazardous-location installations and is commonly paired with the 38563R.S control board assembly to provide compliant exit-loop or egress functionality within NEMA 7/9 rated systems.
Q: What input voltages does this control board support?
A: Genie commercial control boards in this class typically support 115V, 208V, and 230V single-phase as well as 208V, 230V, and 460V three-phase inputs. However, the specific voltage configuration of the 38563R.S should be confirmed against the operator model and installation documentation before ordering, as hazardous-location variants may restrict available voltage options.
Q: Are there special installation requirements for a NEMA 7/9 rated control board?
A: Installation of NEMA 7/9 explosion-proof equipment must comply with NEC Article 500 and relevant NFPA standards for classified hazardous locations. All conduit entries, seals, and wiring methods must meet Class I or Class II Division requirements as applicable. Only qualified electricians with experience in hazardous-location wiring should perform installation.
