HySecurity MX000686, BREATHER CAP, 0.375"
The HySecurity MX000686 is a replacement 3/8-inch hydraulic breather cap for select HySecurity and Nice HySecurity hydraulic gate operator systems. It is commonly listed as BREATHER CAP, 0.375" and as a standard 3/8-inch breather cap.
This cap is used on compatible hydraulic reservoirs and pump pack assemblies where the reservoir must breathe during normal operation. As the gate operator runs, the hydraulic fluid level and internal reservoir air space can change. The breather cap helps allow air movement while helping reduce contamination from dirt, insects, and debris.
The MX000686 is a small part, but it is important for hydraulic system health. A missing or damaged breather cap can allow contamination into the reservoir. Contaminated hydraulic fluid can cause valve problems, seal wear, pump damage, hydraulic motor issues, erratic movement, and premature failure of hydraulic components.
What This Breather Cap Does
The breather cap allows the hydraulic reservoir to vent properly while helping protect the fluid from outside contamination. In a properly maintained hydraulic gate operator, the reservoir should not be sealed with an incorrect plug unless the manufacturer specifically calls for that design.
If the breather cap is clogged, blocked, broken, missing, or replaced with the wrong style of cap, the reservoir may not breathe correctly. This can contribute to fluid leakage, poor hydraulic response, contamination, pressure-related issues, or unnecessary stress on seals and pump pack components.
Compatible With
The HySecurity MX000686 is intended for select HySecurity / Nice HySecurity hydraulic operator reservoirs and pump pack assemblies where this 3/8-inch breather cap is specified. Compatibility depends on the operator model, reservoir design, cap size, thread/fit style, and current HySecurity parts documentation.
- Select HySecurity StrongArm hydraulic operator applications
- Select HySecurity StrongArm M30 / M50 pump pack or reservoir applications where MX000686 is listed
- Select HySecurity SlideDriver hydraulic operator applications where the reservoir uses this breather cap
- Select HySecurity SwingRiser hydraulic operator applications where the parts diagram confirms MX000686
- Select HySecurity HydraSwing hydraulic operator applications where the parts diagram confirms MX000686

Do not assume MX000686 fits every HySecurity operator or every hydraulic reservoir. Similar breather caps may use different sizes, threads, venting styles, filtration levels, or reservoir mounting designs. Always verify the parts diagram before ordering.
Not Intended For
- Universal hydraulic breather cap replacement
- Replacing hydraulic reservoir caps with a different thread size or vent style
- Replacing hydraulic filters, strainers, valves, pump packs, manifolds, or hose kits
- Repairing hydraulic leaks caused by damaged hoses, fittings, seals, manifolds, motors, or overfilled reservoirs
- Correcting poor gate movement caused by contaminated fluid, low fluid, weak pump pack, brake valve issues, or worn drive components without diagnosis
- Sealing a reservoir that is designed to breathe through a vented cap
- Use on non-HySecurity equipment unless the size, venting style, and hydraulic requirements are confirmed
Important Compatibility Warning
MX000686 should be selected by HySecurity part number and reservoir fitment, not only by the 3/8-inch size. A breather cap that appears similar may not seal, vent, or filter correctly for the operators hydraulic reservoir.
If the original breather cap is missing, inspect the reservoir and fluid before installing the replacement. Dirt, water, insects, or debris may already be inside the hydraulic system. In that case, replacing the cap alone may not correct the underlying hydraulic contamination issue.

Technician Note
A breather cap is easy to overlook, but it protects the hydraulic system from contamination while allowing the reservoir to vent. If the cap is missing, cracked, clogged, or replaced with a solid plug, inspect the hydraulic fluid and reservoir condition before assuming the cap alone is the only repair needed.
Do not overfill the hydraulic reservoir to compensate for leakage or movement issues. Overfilling can push fluid out through the breather area during operation. If fluid is coming out of the breather cap, check fluid level, system temperature, reservoir condition, return flow, and whether the operator has another hydraulic issue.
Before Ordering, Confirm
- Confirm the needed HySecurity part number is MX000686.
- Confirm the existing part is a 3/8-inch / 0.375-inch breather cap.
- Confirm the operator model and serial number.
- Confirm the reservoir or pump pack parts diagram lists MX000686.
- Confirm the cap style, thread/fit, and venting function match the original part.
- Confirm the reservoir neck, threads, or cap seat are not damaged.
- Confirm the cap is not being used to cover up a hydraulic leak, overfill issue, or pressure problem.
- Confirm hydraulic fluid is clean if the original cap was missing or damaged.
- Confirm whether gasket, seal, instructions, or additional hardware are included with the current package.
Installation and Service Notes
Clean the reservoir area before removing or installing the breather cap. Dirt around the reservoir opening can fall into the hydraulic fluid during service. If the old cap is missing, inspect the opening carefully before installing the replacement.
After installation, run the operator and check for fluid leakage around the reservoir and breather area. If fluid pushes out of the cap, do not assume the new cap is defective. Check fluid level, reservoir venting, hydraulic temperature, return flow, and the overall hydraulic system condition.
Professional Advisory
Hydraulic gate operator service can involve moving gate parts, hydraulic fluid, pressure-rated components, and sensitive drive systems. A qualified HySecurity gate technician should inspect the system if the breather cap is repeatedly blowing off, leaking fluid, clogging, or showing signs of contamination.
Do not seal, plug, or bypass a reservoir breather unless the HySecurity service documentation specifically calls for that configuration. The hydraulic reservoir must be able to breathe correctly for the operator design.
Product Questions & Answers
What is the HySecurity MX000686 used for?
The HySecurity MX000686 is a 3/8-inch hydraulic breather cap used on select HySecurity hydraulic gate operator reservoirs and pump pack assemblies.
What size is MX000686?
MX000686 is commonly listed as a 0.375-inch, or 3/8-inch, breather cap.
Does MX000686 fit all HySecurity operators?
No. MX000686 should only be used where the operator reservoir or pump pack parts diagram lists this breather cap. It is commonly associated with several hydraulic HySecurity operator families, but fitment should still be verified.
Why does a hydraulic reservoir need a breather cap?
The breather cap allows the reservoir to vent as fluid level and air volume change during operation while helping reduce dirt and debris from entering the hydraulic system.
Can I replace a breather cap with a solid plug?
No. A hydraulic reservoir that is designed to breathe should not be sealed with a solid plug unless HySecurity specifically calls for that configuration. Using the wrong cap can cause pressure and leakage problems.
What should I check if fluid is coming out of the breather cap?
Check the hydraulic fluid level, reservoir condition, system temperature, return flow, and possible hydraulic faults. Fluid coming from the breather may indicate overfilling, venting issues, heat, or another hydraulic problem.
