LiftMaster 02404 NEMA 4/12 Key Switch Compatibility and Service Details
The LiftMaster 02404 is a NEMA 4/12 outdoor surface mount key switch/control station for select LiftMaster industrial door operator applications. It uses a die-cast metal enclosure and is described as non-tamperproof. The cylinder configuration for this version is key cylinder for two-position open/close control.
This product is commonly selected when a keyed control point is needed near a commercial overhead door or industrial operator. Match the exact part number, enclosure type, cylinder style, control action, and STOP-button requirement before ordering.
What This Part Does
The 02404 sends keyed open and close commands using OPEN/CLOSE spring return to center OFF. This version does not include a built-in STOP button. Should only be used on operators wired for constant pressure to open and close, commonly associated with liftmaster industrial operators using type d control wiring.
- OPEN/CLOSE spring return to center OFF
- Key removable in center OFF position only
- No built-in STOP button
- Outdoor surface mount NEMA 4/12 configuration
- key cylinder for two-position open/close control
Compatible With
Use only where the operator control type and site requirements allow a separate open/close key switch without a built-in stop button. These key switches are commonly associated with LiftMaster commercial and industrial door operator accessory stations, but they should always be matched to the operator wiring diagram and required control type.
- Select LiftMaster industrial door operators
- Commercial overhead door operator control circuits
- Applications requiring the listed NEMA enclosure rating
- Sites where the cylinder/keying style matches the facility requirement
- Installations where the control function matches the operator wiring type
Important Compatibility Warning
This model does not include a STOP button. Use a separate STOP control where the operator, wiring type, or safety practice requires one.
Do not order by appearance alone. LiftMaster key switch stations can look similar while using different NEMA ratings, mounting styles, cylinders, STOP-button layouts, and contact behavior. A no-stop open/close key switch is not the same as a STOP-button station, and a maintained ON/OFF switch is not the same as a momentary open/close station.

Related Parts and Service Checks
- Check the existing key switch part number before replacement.
- Confirm whether the job needs open/close only, open/close with STOP, or maintained ON/OFF control.
- Verify the operator control wiring type and terminal layout before connecting the station.
- Confirm the required NEMA enclosure rating for the mounting location.
- Check cylinder/keying requirements before selecting standard, Best, U-Change-It, or customer supplied cylinder versions.
- Inspect stop circuits and safety devices before returning the operator to service.
Technician Note
The most common ordering mistake with these LiftMaster key switches is matching the enclosure but missing the control function. Before replacing the station, confirm whether the old unit has a STOP button, whether the contacts are momentary or maintained, and whether the operator requires Type D constant-pressure control wiring.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Confirm the exact part number is LiftMaster 02404.
- Confirm the required mounting style is outdoor surface mount.
- Confirm the enclosure rating is NEMA 4/12.
- Confirm the cylinder/keying style is key cylinder for two-position open/close control.
- Confirm whether the application requires a STOP button.
- Confirm the operator wiring diagram and control station function.
- Confirm that safety devices and required stop controls will remain properly installed and functional.
Installation and Service Notes
Wiring should be performed by a qualified commercial door, gate, or low-voltage technician when the control circuit is not clearly identified. Follow the operator wiring diagram and the accessory instructions for terminal connections, contact behavior, stop circuit wiring, and enclosure mounting.
Do not use a key switch to bypass photo eyes, sensing edges, door safety devices, fire access, emergency access, operator stop circuits, or other required safety systems. If the door or gate moves unexpectedly, stop testing and have the control circuit checked before placing the operator back in service.
Professional Advisory
Commercial door and industrial operator controls should be selected by function first and appearance second. A similar-looking key switch may not be correct if the wiring type, STOP-button requirement, NEMA rating, cylinder system, or contact action is different. South Florida customers may also confirm Hialeah Gardens local pickup availability before scheduling a service call or installation.
Product Questions and Answers
Is the LiftMaster 02404 compatible with all LiftMaster industrial operators?
It may be used with select LiftMaster industrial operators when the control wiring and station function match the operator requirements. Verify the control type, NEMA rating, STOP-button requirement, and wiring diagram before ordering.
Does the LiftMaster 02404 include a STOP button?
No. This model does not include a built-in STOP button. Use a separate approved STOP control where the operator or application requires one.
What does OPEN/CLOSE spring return to center OFF mean on the LiftMaster 02404?
The key is turned to send the open or close command, then the switch returns to the center OFF position. On this model, the key is removable from the center position only.
Is the LiftMaster 02404 for indoor or outdoor mounting?
The LiftMaster 02404 is a outdoor surface mount NEMA 4/12 key switch. Confirm the enclosure rating and mounting style before replacing a different NEMA 1, NEMA 4, or NEMA 4/12 station.
What cylinder style does the LiftMaster 02404 use?
This model uses key cylinder for two-position open/close control. Do not substitute another cylinder version unless the site keying requirement and part number are confirmed.
Why is there a warning about using another STOP control with the LiftMaster 02404?
Because this model does not include a STOP button and may not stop the door on many industrial operators. Use the proper control station or a separate stop control when the operator or safety practice requires one.
What should be checked before installing the LiftMaster 02404?
Check the operator wiring diagram, control voltage, enclosure rating, mounting location, cylinder/keying requirement, stop circuit, and door safety devices before installation. Have a qualified technician handle unclear wiring.
