Liftmaster 29-40095, BATTERY CHARGER, 12V, .5A
The LiftMaster 29-40095 battery charger is a 12V, 0.5A service component used to maintain or charge batteries in select commercial gate operator systems. In many installations, the charger keeps the backup or auxiliary battery ready so the operator can continue operating during limited power-loss conditions or maintain control-board standby functions. A weak battery, corroded battery leads, blown fuse, or low incoming voltage can look like a charger failure, so the full charging circuit should be checked. This charger is not a universal power supply and should not be used to replace higher-output chargers or chargers designed for 24V systems. Use it where the operator documentation, original label, or service parts list calls for 29-40095 or a matching 12V 0.5A charger.
Compatible With
- For use with various LiftMaster commercial gate operators when the parts diagram specifies 29-40095.
- Commonly associated with 12VDC battery charging or battery maintenance circuits.
- Supplier references list SL505 and SW425 commercial gate operator applications; verify by model and diagram.
- Related to auxiliary battery backup systems that use the matching 12V charging output.
- Not for 24V charging systems or higher-current charger applications unless specifically supported by the operator documentation.

Technician Note
A battery charger should be tested with the battery disconnected and connected under the correct conditions. A bad battery can pull voltage down and make a good charger look failed.
Before Ordering
- Confirm the operator uses a 12V battery system.
- Match the old charger to 29-40095 or 12BC0500D1.
- Verify output current is 0.5A.
- Inspect battery leads, fuse, and terminals for corrosion.
- Load-test the battery before blaming the charger.
Important Ordering Warnings
- Do not use on 24V systems unless the diagram specifically calls for it.
- Do not reverse battery polarity.
- A failed charger can be caused by a shorted battery or damaged wiring.
- Battery backup systems should not be modified to bypass safety controls.
Professional Advisory
Electrical components should be installed and tested by a qualified gate technician. Disconnect power before service and do not bypass safety devices, overload protection, alarms, or manufacturer-required entrapment protection devices.
Product Questions & Answers
Is 29-40095 a 12V or 24V charger?
It is listed as a 12V DC, 0.5A charger. Do not use it on a 24V charging system unless the manufacturer diagram specifically calls for it.
Will a new charger fix a dead backup battery?
Not always. A sulfated, old, or shorted battery may not recover with a new charger. The battery should be load-tested.
What models is this charger associated with?
It is listed for various LiftMaster commercial gate operators, with some supplier references calling out SL505 and SW425 applications.
What does 0.5A mean on this charger?
It means the charger is rated for about 500mA output, typically for battery maintenance or low-current charging rather than high-speed charging.
What should be checked before replacing the charger?
Check AC input, fuses, battery condition, wiring, connector polarity, and the operator parts diagram.
