Liftmaster 878MAX Wireless Keypad Garage Door Operators Keyless Entry System
The 878MAX is an exterior wireless keypad used to open a compatible residential garage door opener from outside the garage. It is not a hardwired wall station and does not replace the opener logic board or safety sensors. For homeowners, it provides PIN-code entry for family members, service access, or temporary access without handing out a remote. For technicians, the important details are the opener's learn button color, radio technology, and whether the operator is a compatible LiftMaster, Chamberlain, or Craftsman unit made from 1993 forward. The keypad is commonly used as a replacement for older MAX style keyless entries when the opener receiver is still functioning. If the opener has no learn button, uses an external commercial receiver, or belongs to a managed access-control system, compatibility should be checked by receiver model instead of keypad appearance.

Technician Note
Check the opener's learn button color before programming. If the opener uses an add-on receiver, match the keypad to the receiver, not just the opener head.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Confirm the opener has a supported learn button color.
- Confirm the keypad is being used for a residential garage door opener, not a restricted commercial access system.
- Have the opener model number available before programming.
- Replace batteries if an existing keypad has weak range or intermittent operation.
- Do not bypass photo eyes or safety devices while testing the opener.
Professional Advisory
Keypad programming is low voltage/user-level work, but any opener that moves unexpectedly, reverses incorrectly, or has missing safety sensors should be inspected by a qualified garage door technician.
