LiftMaster 974LM 2-Pack Security+ Remote Replaced by 894LT 4-Button Learning Remote
This 2-pack listing is for the LiftMaster 894LT learning remote, the four-button replacement commonly used in place of an older 974LM Security+ remote. The 894LT is one of the more flexible LiftMaster remote options because each button can be independently programmed. That means one transmitter may be set up for several compatible devices, such as multiple garage door openers, a community gate receiver, a commercial door receiver, or an access-control point that uses a supported LiftMaster radio format. For customers replacing an old 974LM, the 894LT keeps the same general four-button concept while adding broader learning-remote capability. The 894LT is commonly used where a customer has mixed LiftMaster technologies on the same property. One button may be assigned to a Security+ 2.0 yellow learn-button opener, another to a Security+ 315 MHz purple learn-button opener, another to a Security+ 390 MHz red/orange learn-button opener, and another to a compatible LiftMaster DIP-style receiver when cloning is supported. Multi-packs should be treated as separate remotes: each remote in the pack must be programmed to the intended opener, receiver, or cloned remote source.
This is a multi-pack listing. It is useful for shops, service trucks, family vehicles, property managers, and customers replacing multiple lost or damaged remotes at the same time. Treat each remote as its own transmitter during setup. Labeling the remotes by door, gate, unit number, or vehicle after programming can help avoid confusion during service calls.
Compatible With
Compatibility should be verified by the opener learn-button color, receiver model, old remote model, and radio technology. The following applications are commonly associated with this replacement family when the system is configured for the matching code type:
- Select LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Sears Craftsman, and related Chamberlain Group garage door openers using Security+ 390 MHz, Security+ 315 MHz, or Security+ 2.0 radio technology.
- Security+ 2.0 yellow learn-button openers, gate operators, commercial door operators, and compatible commercial receivers where the receiver accepts Security+ 2.0 remotes.
- Security+ 315 MHz purple learn-button applications, including older 370 Series remote families where the opener or receiver accepts that code type.
- Security+ 390 MHz red/orange learn-button applications, including older 970 Series remote families where the opener or receiver accepts that code type.
- Older 974LM and 374LM remote replacement applications, with the number of usable buttons depending on the new remote model and how each button is programmed.
- Compatible LiftMaster DIP-code cloning applications when cloning from a supported existing remote such as 61LM, 361LM, or 811LM and the original system is in the supported radio family.
- LiftMaster 850LM, 860LM, and STAR1000 Security+ 2.0 receiver applications when those receivers are installed and configured for matching remotes.
- Community gate, commercial door, and mixed garage/gate installations where four independently programmable buttons are useful.
- Not intended for Genie Intellicode, Linear MegaCode, Multi-Code 300 MHz, or other non-LiftMaster radio systems unless a compatible LiftMaster receiver has been installed.
Also Known As / Related Part Numbers
These are related, replacement, or commonly cross-shopped LiftMaster and Chamberlain Group remote references. Similar-looking remotes may not be interchangeable unless the opener or receiver supports the same radio technology.

Technician Note
The important selling point on this item is not just the replacement model number. The customer needs a compatible LiftMaster radio family. The 892LT and 894LT are strongest when the customer needs a learning remote for a mixed LiftMaster garage/gate setup, especially where the old 970 Series or 370 Series remote has been discontinued. If the customer is trying to copy a community gate remote, confirm it is a supported LiftMaster DIP-style remote or a compatible Security+ receiver before presenting it as a guaranteed match.
Before Ordering
- Confirm the old remote model printed on the back or inside the battery cover.
- Confirm the opener learn-button color or the external receiver model number.
- Confirm how many buttons the customer needs and whether this listing is the correct pack quantity.
- For community gates, confirm whether the receiver allows owner-programmed remotes or requires manager/dealer programming.
- For DIP-code cloning, confirm the existing remote is a supported LiftMaster DIP-code remote before ordering.
- Do not use a remote-control replacement to bypass required safety devices or door/gate controls.
Professional Advisory
Remote programming is usually low-voltage and owner-friendly, but commercial doors, gate operators, and community receivers can involve access-control rules and monitored safety requirements. If the operator moves unexpectedly, has missing entrapment protection, has damaged wiring, or cannot be safely tested, stop and have a qualified gate or garage door technician inspect the system before adding remotes.
Product Questions & Answers
Is this 2-pack used to replace the LiftMaster 974LM?
Yes, the 894LT is commonly used as the four-button replacement path for older LiftMaster 974LM and 374LM-style Security+ remotes when the opener or receiver uses a compatible LiftMaster radio family.
Why would someone choose 894LT instead of 893MAX?
The 894LT is a learning remote with independently programmable buttons and cloning ability for select LiftMaster DIP-code applications. The 893MAX is a MAX-family remote for compatible learn-button applications but is not the same style of learning remote.
Can all four buttons be programmed to different devices?
Yes, each button can be programmed independently when each opener, receiver, gate operator, or commercial door operator is compatible with the remote technology being used.
Does this work with old community gate remotes?
It may work when the gate system uses a supported LiftMaster receiver or when the existing remote is a supported LiftMaster DIP-code remote such as 61LM, 361LM, or 811LM. It should not be sold as universal for all community gates.
Do multi-packs require special setup?
No special setup is required, but every transmitter in the pack must be programmed one at a time. For gated communities or shared receivers, access-control permission may be required before adding remotes.
