Liftmaster K1A6408 APE Kit 24V RPM Sensor Encoder for CSW24 CSL24 Gate Openers
The LiftMaster K1A6408 is a 24V APE kit used in select LiftMaster CSW24V swing gate and CSL24V slide gate operator platforms. The APE/encoder assembly provides movement feedback to the operator control system so the board can monitor gate position, travel, and operation. When the encoder signal is missing or unreliable, the operator may have travel faults, limit/position errors, or inconsistent movement.
This kit is commonly described as a 24V RPM sensor encoder kit and may include the APE assembly, plastic tray, RPB board, and mounting hardware. Because the encoder works directly with the operator control board and drive system, correct fitment matters. Similar-looking sensors or boards from other models should not be substituted unless the parts diagram confirms the match.
Before replacing the kit, inspect the operator for mechanical binding, damaged wiring, loose connectors, water intrusion, board faults, or gate drag. Encoder issues can be caused by the component itself, but they can also be caused by the conditions around it.
Compatible With
Commonly listed for LiftMaster CSW24V swing gate operators and CSL24V slide gate operators. May apply to select CSW24V/CSL24V configurations where the parts diagram calls for K1A6408. Verify model suffix, generation, and control-board configuration before ordering.

Technician Note
An encoder fault can be electrical or mechanical. Check for gate drag, damaged wiring, and board issues before assuming the encoder kit is the only failed part.
Before Ordering
- Confirm the operator is CSW24V or CSL24V and the parts diagram lists K1A6408.
- Inspect the wiring harness and encoder connector.
- Check for mechanical binding or gate imbalance.
- Look for water intrusion or board damage.
- Follow LiftMaster setup procedures after replacement.
Professional Advisory
Gate operators can move unexpectedly during setup and diagnostics. Service should be performed by a qualified gate technician with the gate secured and power handled safely.
Product Questions & Answers
What is included with the K1A6408 APE kit?
The K1A6408 kit is commonly listed as an APE assembly with a 24V RPM sensor/encoder, plastic tray, RPB board, and mounting hardware.
Which gate operators use K1A6408?
It is commonly listed for LiftMaster CSW24V swing gate operators and CSL24V slide gate operators, with compatibility dependent on the operator parts diagram.
What does the APE or encoder do?
The encoder helps the operator track motor position or travel feedback so the control board can monitor gate movement.
Can this fix travel or position errors?
It may help when the original encoder assembly is failed, but travel problems can also come from wiring, board issues, mechanical drag, or incorrect setup.
Is K1A6408 used on all CSW and CSL models?
No. It should be matched to the exact CSW24V or CSL24V generation and parts diagram before ordering.
