LiftMaster K23-2017 Limit Switch for Swing and Barrier Gate Operators
The LiftMaster K23-2017 limit switch is a service replacement component used to help control gate or barrier travel position. In a gate operator, the limit switch is part of the system that tells the control circuit when the equipment has reached its open or close stopping point. A worn or damaged switch can create travel problems even when the motor, gearbox, and control board are still working.
This part is often listed for select LiftMaster swing and barrier gate operators, and it may also be searched alongside similar LiftMaster limit switch numbers used in slide and swing gate applications. Since limit switches can vary by lever style, terminal position, mounting hole spacing, and operator generation, match the old switch and confirm the part number in the manual before installation.
Common Replacement Reasons
- Gate or barrier arm travels too far before stopping
- Operator stops short or does not recognize open/close position
- Limit switch lever is broken, bent, or not clicking
- Terminals are corroded, loose, or damaged
- Control board shows limit-related fault behavior on compatible models
Compatible With
Used with select LiftMaster swing and barrier gate operators. Some references group nearby numbers with swing and slide gate limit switches, so part-number verification is important.
- Select LiftMaster swing gate operators that call for K23-2017
- Select LiftMaster barrier gate operators that call for K23-2017
- May be associated with older LiftMaster / Chamberlain / Elite gate operator limit assemblies when the parts diagram confirms it
- Not automatically interchangeable with K23-2016 or other similar limit switches unless the manual confirms the same replacement

Technician Note
A limit switch failure can look like a board issue if the switch never opens or closes electrically. Always check the switch action, wiring, and mechanical adjustment after replacement.
Before Ordering
- Confirm the original switch number is K23-2017 or 23-2017
- Compare lever/actuator style to the old switch
- Verify mounting holes and terminal orientation
- Check whether the operator requires a different nearby number such as K23-2016
- Reset or adjust limits according to the operator manual after installation
Professional Advisory
Do not bypass limit switches to keep an operator running. Limit circuits are part of proper travel control and should be repaired correctly by a qualified gate technician when diagnosis is uncertain.
Product Questions
What is the K23-2017 limit switch used for?
It is used to signal the open or close travel position on select LiftMaster swing and barrier gate operators.
No confirmed one-for-one interchange should be assumed. K23-2016 is a related similar LiftMaster limit switch, but the operator manual should confirm the correct number.
What happens when a limit switch fails?
The operator may stop in the wrong place, overtravel, fail to complete a cycle, or show inconsistent open and close limits.
Do I need to adjust the limits after replacing this switch?
Usually yes. After replacing a limit switch, the limit position and switch actuation should be checked and adjusted using the operator manual.
Can a bad limit switch damage other parts?
If ignored, incorrect limit operation can cause mechanical stress, overtravel, gate binding, or extra wear on drive components.
