LiftMaster K74-36798-2 Plastic Control Box for LA400 Swing Gate Operators
The LiftMaster K74-36798-2 plastic control box is the replacement enclosure used to protect LiftMaster LA400 series DC swing gate control electronics. The enclosure is the outer shell that keeps the control electronics, battery area, accessory wiring, reset switch assembly and mounting hardware organized and protected in an outdoor gate environment. When the box is cracked, sun-brittle, warped or water damaged, the operator electronics become much more vulnerable to corrosion and nuisance failures.
This part should be matched by exact part number and operator generation. The LA400, LA412, LA500 and newer U/UL control boxes can look similar from the outside, but hinge locations, internal brackets, reset switch positions, wiring exits and lid hardware may differ. This listing should be treated as the plastic enclosure only unless the supplier states otherwise; it does not normally include the main control board, batteries, transformer, radio receiver, charger or accessory wiring.

Technician Note
This is a housing part. When transferring parts from the old box, inspect the control board, battery leads, reset switch, harnesses, outlet or transformer area, accessory wiring and safety-device wiring for corrosion or heat damage.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Match the part number on the original control box or parts diagram.
- Confirm the operator model and suffix, such as LA400, LA400U, LA412, LA500, or LA500U.
- Confirm whether this is an empty plastic enclosure or a complete control panel with electronics.
- Inspect hinges, latch points, mounting holes, wire exits, and internal brackets before ordering.
- Do not reuse damaged wiring, corroded terminals, or unsafe battery connections.
Professional Advisory
This enclosure work involves the operator control compartment. Disconnect power, secure the gate, and use a qualified gate technician if wiring, batteries, safety devices, or line-voltage connections need to be moved.
Product Questions and Answers
Does K74-36798-2 include the control board?
No. It should be treated as the plastic control box housing only unless the supplier specifically states that electronics are included.
Which operator is K74-36798-2 for?
This part is listed for LA400 swing gate operator control box applications. Match the model suffix and parts diagram.
Why should I verify the model suffix?
LA400, LA412, LA500, LA400U and LA500U enclosures may look similar but can use different internal layouts and part numbers.
Can I reuse the old electronics in the new box?
Only if the electronics and wiring are clean, dry and undamaged. Water-damaged or corroded components should be inspected before reuse.
Is this a weatherproof repair by itself?
It restores the proper enclosure when installed correctly, but lid seals, cable routing, conduit entries and mounting hardware must also be in good condition.
