Mighty Mule RP1018 318 MHz Remote Antenna Extension Kit Details
The Mighty Mule RP1018 is a remote antenna extension kit for select MM37x and MM57x automatic swing gate operators. It moves the operator's existing 318 MHz antenna away from the control box so the antenna can be positioned higher and farther from nearby obstructions.
This kit may help with limited or inconsistent remote-control reception caused by the original antenna being mounted close to a metal enclosure, fence, gate post, masonry column, vegetation, or other signal-blocking material. It does not add an electronic amplifier or change the operator's receiver frequency.
Confirmed Operator Compatibility
- Mighty Mule MM371 operator family
- Mighty Mule MM372 operator family
- Mighty Mule MM571 operator family
- Mighty Mule MM572 operator family
- Mighty Mule MM371W current model designation
- Mighty Mule MM372W current model designation
- Mighty Mule MM571W current model designation

Legacy Application Requiring Verification
Official Mighty Mule support has also recommended the RP1018 for the discontinued MM560 gate operator. Because the current RP1018 specifications do not list every MM560 production revision, confirm that the operator has the compatible 318 MHz receiver and threaded antenna connection before ordering.
What the RP1018 Kit Does
- Relocates the existing receiver antenna away from the control box
- Allows the antenna to be mounted higher for improved positioning
- Uses a coaxial cable assembly with threaded antenna connections
- Provides a mounting bracket for the relocated antenna
- Maintains the operator's original 318 MHz receiver system
- May improve remote reception when antenna placement is the problem
Important Compatibility and Package Warning
The RP1018 is not a universal antenna extension for every Mighty Mule, GTO, Linear, Nice, gate, or garage door receiver. Verify the operator model, receiver frequency, antenna connector, and control-box generation before ordering.
The kit reuses the antenna already installed on the operator. The installation instructions direct the installer to remove the existing antenna from the control box and reconnect it to the extension cable. A new RP1008 antenna should not be assumed included with the RP1018.

The operator's existing antenna is reused. Do not advertise an RP1008 antenna, control board, remote transmitter, receiver, control box, or additional accessory as included unless it is physically packaged with the product being sold.
RP1018 Compared With the RP1008 Antenna
The RP1018 is an extension kit that relocates the existing antenna. The RP1008 is the standard 318 MHz replacement antenna that attaches directly to the compatible control box or to the end of the RP1018 cable assembly.
Order the RP1008 when the original antenna is missing, broken, or damaged. Order the RP1018 when the existing antenna needs to be repositioned. An installation that has a damaged antenna and also requires relocation may need both parts.
Similar Parts That Are Not Automatically Interchangeable
- RP1008 standard 318 MHz replacement antenna
- External receiver kits with separate relay wiring
- Wi-Fi or cellular antennas used with smart-control accessories
- Antennas and cables designed for 300 MHz, 310 MHz, 315 MHz, 433 MHz, or other frequencies
- Cables with different threaded, push-on, SMA, reverse-polarity, or proprietary connectors
- Universal coaxial extension cables not approved for the receiver system
- SR-RP1018 OEM or bulk-pack units with different packaging and warranty terms
Remote Range and Troubleshooting Checks
The RP1018 may improve reception when the original antenna location is the limiting factor. No specific additional range can be guaranteed because remote performance depends on the complete installation.
- Replace or test the remote transmitter battery.
- Confirm that the transmitter is compatible with the operator.
- Verify that the remote is properly programmed.
- Inspect the original antenna for cracks, corrosion, or missing parts.
- Check the control-box antenna connector for looseness or damage.
- Look for nearby metal enclosures, fences, posts, or buildings.
- Check for electrical or radio-frequency interference.
- Test the remote from different locations and vehicle positions.
- Inspect the receiver or control board if all transmitters have poor range.
Technician Note
The installation instructions specify mounting the bracket as far and high as practical from the control box. The bracket is installed horizontally, and the antenna is placed in the vertical position after it is connected to the cable assembly.
Do not tightly coil the extension cable next to the control box or route it alongside high-current motor, battery, transformer, or accessory wiring when another route is available. Avoid sharp bends, crushed cable, water-entry points, and unnecessary tension on the threaded connectors.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Confirm the complete Mighty Mule operator model number.
- Verify that the operator uses a 318 MHz receiver system.
- Inspect the original antenna and confirm it is available for reuse.
- Check that the control box has the correct threaded antenna connection.
- Determine whether the problem is antenna placement or a damaged antenna.
- Order the RP1008 separately if the original antenna is missing or broken.
- Confirm that the installation has a suitable location for the mounting bracket.
- Verify whether the product is RP1018 retail packaging or SR-RP1018 bulk packaging.
Installation and Service Notes
Turn off the gate operator and disconnect the battery and charging source before opening or servicing the control box. Unscrew the existing antenna, attach the coaxial cable assembly to the control-box connector, and secure the cable without placing side pressure on the connector.
Mount the supplied bracket horizontally in a suitable elevated location. Pass the extension-cable connector through the bracket, reinstall the lock washer and nut, attach the original antenna, and position the antenna vertically.
Do not force or overtighten the threaded connections. A loose, corroded, or broken control-board connector may require receiver or control-board service. Unclear wiring, damaged electronics, water intrusion, or recurring communication faults should be inspected by a qualified gate or low-voltage technician.
Product Questions and Answers
Which Mighty Mule gate openers are compatible with the RP1018?
The RP1018 is confirmed for the MM371, MM372, MM571, and MM572 operator families, including models commonly labeled MM371W, MM372W, MM571W, and MM572W.
Can the RP1018 be used with a Mighty Mule MM560 operator?
Official Mighty Mule support has recommended the RP1018 for the discontinued MM560. Confirm the operator's 318 MHz receiver and threaded antenna connection because the current specification list focuses on the MM37x and MM57x families.
Does the RP1018 kit include a new antenna?
No. The installation instructions require removing the existing antenna from the control box and reconnecting it to the extension cable. Order the RP1008 separately if the original antenna is missing or damaged.
What parts are included with the RP1018 extension kit?
The official instructions identify a coaxial cable assembly, mounting bracket, hardware bag, and cable ties. A control board, remote transmitter, receiver, control box, and replacement antenna are not included.
How is the relocated antenna mounted?
The bracket should be mounted horizontally as far and high as practical from the control box. The existing antenna is connected to the cable assembly and positioned vertically.
Will the RP1018 guarantee a specific increase in remote range?
No. Range depends on antenna placement, terrain, buildings, metal obstructions, electrical interference, transmitter condition, receiver condition, and other site factors.
Is the RP1018 the same part as the RP1008 antenna?
No. The RP1018 is a cable and mounting kit used to relocate an antenna. The RP1008 is the standard replacement 318 MHz antenna and may be required separately when the original antenna is missing or damaged.
What should I check if the remote range is still poor after installing the RP1018?
Check the transmitter battery, remote compatibility and programming, antenna condition, cable connections, receiver circuit, nearby metal obstructions, electrical interference, and control-board condition.
