Miller Edge AW14K500-12-RF Wireless Air-Wave System Details
The Miller Edge AW14K500-12-RF is a non-monitored wireless Air-Wave system for select motorized commercial door applications. It combines an AW14-RF pneumatic transmitter switch, an MRF-01 receiver, and a 12-foot length of RAH-500 gum rubber hose.
When the RAH-500 hose is compressed, an air-pressure wave travels through the connecting tube to the diaphragm inside the AW14-RF. The integrated transmitter sends a wireless signal to the MRF-01 receiver, which closes its normally open output so the connected operator can provide its programmed stop or reverse response.
What This Wireless Air-Wave Kit Does
The AW14K500-12-RF eliminates the moving coil cord or retracting reel normally used between a door-mounted pneumatic sensing edge and the operator. The AW14-RF mounts on the moving door near the Air-Wave hose, while the MRF-01 receiver remains wired to the operator control circuit.
The pneumatic switch has adjustable sensitivity to match the hose length and installation conditions. A pressure and temperature compensation valve helps reduce changes in operation caused by environmental conditions.

- Additional obstruction detection where permitted by the operator manufacturer
Important Non-Monitored Device Warning
AW14K500-12-RF is a non-monitored wireless system. It does not provide 10K resistance, pulsed monitoring, diode-capacitor monitoring, or another supervised safety signal.
Miller Edge describes the AW14-RF-K10 system as ideal primarily for door operators manufactured before August 2010. It must not replace a required monitored sensing edge, monitored photo eye, or other approved entrapment-protection device on an operator that requires supervision.
Verify the operator manufacturer, complete model number, production date, control-board part number, edge-input function, receiver power, and current operator manual before ordering.
MRF-01 Receiver Output
The MRF-01 provides a 2-wire normally open output for a compatible low-voltage edge, safety, or reversing input. When the receiver receives an activation signal from the AW14-RF transmitter, it closes the relay contact.
An operator terminal labeled EDGE, SAFETY, REVERSE, or N.O. does not automatically confirm compatibility. The operator must permit a non-monitored normally open device for the intended function.
Wireless Range and Transmitter Capacity
- Nominal range: 50 feet
- Maximum range: Up to 100 feet under optimal conditions
- Receiver capacity: Up to eight compatible transmitters
- Radio frequency: 915 MHz with FSK modulation
- Response time: Approximately 100 milliseconds from edge activation to receiver output
Metal door sections, operator cabinets, structural steel, nearby radio equipment, antenna placement, and lack of clear line of sight can reduce actual wireless range.
12-Foot Hose Length Clarification
The 12-foot designation refers to the supplied length of RAH-500 hose. It does not identify transmitter range, receiver wire length, or maximum separation between the transmitter and receiver.
Miller Edge instructions state that the AW14-RF system family may be installed on doors up to 18 feet wide. This does not mean that a 12-foot hose is correct for every door up to that width. Confirm the required finished sensing-edge length before ordering.

Not Intended For
- Replacing a required monitored sensing edge
- Operators requiring 10K, pulsed, or diode-capacitor monitoring
- Applications requiring a normally closed receiver output
- Direct connection to a motor or unsuitable line-voltage load
- Gate operator use without documented manufacturer approval
- Replacement based only on matching frequency or enclosure appearance
- Installations where the receiver antenna remains shielded behind metal
Technician Note
The green MRF-01 antenna wire must remain visible to the transmitter and should not be placed behind metal. The receiver should be mounted near the operator so its integral wiring can reach the control terminals without placing the antenna in a shielded location.
The RAH-500 hose, P-50 plug, P-50H plug, connecting tube, and barbed fitting must remain airtight. A split hose, leaking plug, loose fitting, blocked tube, or incorrect sensitivity adjustment can cause missed activations or nuisance reversals.
Longer pneumatic edges generally require more sensitivity. Excessive sensitivity can allow normal door vibration to activate the system.
Before Ordering Checklist
- Record the door operator manufacturer and complete model number.
- Identify the operator manufacture date and control-board part number.
- Confirm that the operator permits a non-monitored normally open edge input.
- Verify the exact MRF-01 power requirement from the current receiver label.
- Confirm that 12 feet of RAH-500 hose is the correct required length.
- Verify that the complete pneumatic path can remain airtight.
- Check the transmitter-to-receiver distance and RF line of sight.
- Confirm that the receiver antenna will not be shielded by metal.
- Determine whether transmitter and receiver mounting screws are required.
- Confirm that all required monitored entrapment-protection devices remain installed.
Installation and Safety Advisory
Installation, receiver wiring, transmitter programming, sensitivity adjustment, pneumatic assembly, and final testing must follow current Miller Edge instructions, the operator manufacturer manual, applicable electrical codes, and current commercial door safety requirements.
Never use this non-monitored system to bypass a monitored safety input, jumper an entrapment-protection circuit, or conceal a sensing-edge fault. Do not connect the receiver output directly to a motor or an unsuitable line-voltage circuit.
A qualified commercial door, garage door, low-voltage, or industrial-controls technician should complete the work when the receiver voltage, operator input, RF placement, pneumatic assembly, or required safety response is unclear.
