NICE / APOLLO 10040690, ASSEMBLY, TORQUE LIMITER FOR 3500
The NICE Apollo 10040690 torque limiter assembly is a mechanical drive protection part for Apollo Vanguard 3500 and 3501 swing gate operators. The torque limiter helps protect the operator drive system by allowing controlled slip or torque management when the gate encounters excessive resistance. In the field, a worn or damaged torque limiter can show up as inconsistent gate movement, slipping under load, grinding or chatter from the drive area, difficulty moving a heavy gate, or an operator that runs but does not transfer power cleanly through the arm system. This is a service part for the heavy-duty Vanguard operator platform, not a universal clutch or generic swing gate component. Because drive parts work together with the gearbox, motor plate, arm hardware, and gate condition, the torque limiter should be replaced only after checking for hinge drag, binding, wind load, arm alignment, and worn mechanical hardware. Correct diagnosis matters because a bad gate or misaligned arm can damage the new part quickly.
Compatible With
NICE Apollo Vanguard 3500 and 3501 swing gate operator applications; commonly searched as Apollo 3500 torque limiter, 3501 torque limiter, and Vanguard torque limiter assembly. Verify the operator generation and drive assembly before ordering.

Technician Note
A torque limiter failure can be a symptom of a dragging or overloaded gate. Inspect gate movement and arm geometry before replacing drive components.
Before Ordering
- Confirm the operator model and series from the operator label.
- Compare the existing part number and physical part to the replacement.
- Check the operator parts diagram for the correct generation and mounting style.
- Inspect surrounding hardware for wear, corrosion, misalignment, or water damage.
- For electrical, control board, or unsafe gate movement issues, use a qualified gate technician.
Professional Advisory
Gate operator service parts should be selected by exact model, operator generation, and installed hardware. Similar-looking Apollo parts may use different mounting patterns, limit styles, gear ratios, or enclosure layouts. Do not bypass monitored safety devices or force a gate operator to run when the gate is binding, overtraveling, or moving unpredictably.
Important Ordering Warnings
- Do not increase force settings or bypass safety devices to overcome a slipping or binding gate.
- Confirm 3500 vs 3501 operator details before ordering; similar Vanguard service parts are not always interchangeable.
Product Questions and Answers
What does the 10040690 torque limiter do?
It helps manage torque transfer in the Vanguard 3500/3501 drive system and can protect the operator from excessive mechanical load.
Which operators is this part commonly used with?
It is commonly listed for NICE Apollo Vanguard 3500 and 3501 swing gate operators.
Can a bad torque limiter make the arm slip?
Yes. Slipping, inconsistent movement, or failure to move the gate under load can be related to the torque limiter, but gate binding and arm alignment should also be checked.
Is this part used on Apollo slide gate operators?
No. This part is associated with Vanguard 3500/3501 swing gate operator applications, not Apollo 7200/7251/7351 slide operators.
What should be inspected before replacement?
Check the gate hinges, arm hardware, gearbox area, motor plate hardware, torque limiter condition, and overall gate balance before installing a new assembly.
