AES MOD-PB-1X3, One by Three Module Assembled Pedestal Back Box and Mounting Plate
The AES MOD-PB-1X3 is a one-by-three assembled pedestal back box and mounting plate for select AES Modular intercom and access control panel applications. The 1X3 layout provides three module positions for building a narrow AES modular entry station where a compact pedestal-style panel is required.
This part is used as the physical pedestal-style mounting structure for AES modular components. Depending on the system design, a 1X3 modular panel may be used with a call button, keypad module, prox reader module, information window, speaker/callpoint module, cellular module, IP/video component, or other AES modular accessory.
The MOD-PB-1X3 should be selected when the installation calls for a pedestal-style three-module AES panel. It is not the same as a flush-mounted, imperial-style, architectural-style, wall-mounted, or older one-by-three back box unless the AES parts diagram or job specification confirms interchangeability.
What This Pedestal Back Box and Mounting Plate Does
The MOD-PB-1X3 provides the back box and mounting plate structure for a 1 by 3 AES Modular panel in pedestal-style applications. It is commonly associated with drive-up entry points, gate entrances, access lanes, commercial sites, residential communities, and narrow modular intercom layouts where the panel is positioned for vehicle or pedestrian access.
This assembly supports the installed AES modules, but it does not handle calling, cellular communication, keypad entry, credential reading, audio, video, relay output, or gate operator control by itself. Those functions depend on the modules installed into the panel and the way the system is wired, powered, and programmed.
Compatible With
Use the AES MOD-PB-1X3 only where the AES system layout, parts diagram, or panel build specifies a 1X3 pedestal back box and mounting plate. Compatibility depends on the AES Modular Range generation, mounting style, module count, and the specific modules being installed.
- Select AES Modular Range intercom systems requiring a three-module 1 by 3 pedestal panel layout
- Select AES Modular cellular intercom builds where a pedestal 1X3 shell is specified
- Select AES Modular IP / 4G video intercom builds where the panel design calls for a pedestal 1X3 back box
- Select AES hard-wired or wireless modular entry station layouts where the AES documentation confirms a 1X3 pedestal shell
- Installations combining AES modular components such as a call button, keypad, prox, information, speaker/callpoint, video, cellular, or access control module
- Repairs or replacements where the original back box, job drawing, or parts list identifies MOD-PB-1X3
- Applications where the mounting plate pattern, panel size, module count, and pedestal-style installation match the AES 1X3 pedestal configuration
Important Compatibility Warning
AES modular back boxes can look similar across different mounting styles and module counts. Do not order by appearance alone. Confirm the exact part number, mounting style, module layout, panel dimensions, mounting plate pattern, and module arrangement before ordering.
The MOD-PB-1X3 is the pedestal-style 1 by 3 / three-module version. It should not be confused with flush, imperial, architectural, surface, 1X1, 1X2, 2X2, 2X3, 3X3, or older MOD-1X3 back box references. If the existing panel is recessed into a wall, mounted in a hooded imperial shell, or installed in an architectural housing, the pedestal version may not be the correct replacement.

Technician Note
For a pedestal back box replacement, the most common mistake is choosing the correct 1X3 module count but the wrong enclosure style. A 1X3 flush shell, imperial shell, architectural shell, or older MOD-1X3 assembly may not match the same mounting plate pattern, hooded profile, service access, or finished look as the MOD-PB-1X3.
Before ordering, confirm the existing pedestal-style housing, check the module layout, measure the face and mounting pattern, inspect the conduit entry path, and confirm the part number from the original AES documentation or job paperwork. If the panel is being replaced because of corrosion, vandalism, water intrusion, or impact damage, inspect the installed modules, harnesses, seals, and mounting hardware before reusing them.
Before Ordering, Confirm
- The required part number is MOD-PB-1X3.
- The installation requires a pedestal-style back box, not flush, imperial, architectural, or surface-style mounting.
- The system needs a 1 by 3 / three-module layout.
- The mounting plate pattern and available mounting surface match the required AES pedestal configuration.
- The AES module layout matches the existing or planned panel design.
- The existing AES modules are reusable and compatible with the new mounting plate.
- The product listing includes the pedestal back box and mounting plate only, unless additional components are specifically stated.
- The gooseneck, post, concrete base, conduit, wiring, and module electronics are included only if the listing specifically says so.
- The issue is not caused by damaged electronics, wiring, power supply, cellular signal, keypad, prox reader, speaker module, or call button module.
Installation and Service Notes
- Confirm final panel size, mounting plate pattern, and conduit entry before modifying a pedestal, gooseneck, kiosk, or access control post.
- Protect all wiring, connectors, and electronics from metal shavings, dust, water, and construction debris during installation.
- Use sealing methods suitable for outdoor exposure, vehicle-lane environments, and local weather conditions.
- Do not overtighten module hardware or distort the mounting plate.
- Confirm the panel is plumb, secure, accessible for service, and positioned safely for vehicle or pedestrian use.
- After installation, test all installed AES modules, including call buttons, keypad, prox reader, speaker, microphone, video, cellular/IP connection, and relay output where applicable.
- Do not bypass access control wiring, monitored gate safety inputs, photo eyes, safety edges, fire access equipment, or required entrapment protection during testing.
Professional Advisory
A qualified gate, access control, or low-voltage technician should handle installation when the panel is tied into a gate operator, magnetic lock, electric strike, elevator control, fire access system, telephone entry system, cellular intercom, or monitored gate safety circuit. If the site has water damage, unknown wiring changes, vehicle impact damage, nearby high-voltage equipment, or required entrapment protection, confirm the full system is safe and operating correctly before returning it to service.
Product Questions & Answers
What is the AES MOD-PB-1X3 used for?
The AES MOD-PB-1X3 is used as a pedestal-style back box and mounting plate for select AES Modular intercom panel assemblies that require a 1 by 3 / three-module layout.
Is the MOD-PB-1X3 a complete AES intercom system?
No. The MOD-PB-1X3 is the pedestal back box and mounting plate assembly only. It does not include the AES communication electronics, call buttons, speaker module, keypad, prox reader, power supply, wiring, or gate operator relay hardware.
How many modules does the AES MOD-PB-1X3 hold?
The AES MOD-PB-1X3 is designed for a 1 by 3 layout with three module positions, where the AES panel design and parts diagram confirm that configuration.
Can I use the MOD-PB-1X3 for a flush-mounted installation?
Not normally. MOD-PB-1X3 is a pedestal-style back box. Flush-mounted AES installations usually require a flush back box such as a related MOD-FB version, where specified.
Is AES MOD-PB-1X3 the same as MOD-FB-1X3 or MOD-IB-1X3?
No. MOD-PB-1X3 is the pedestal back box version. MOD-FB-1X3 is the flush version, and MOD-IB-1X3 is an imperial-style version. These should not be substituted without checking the panel and mounting requirements.
Does the MOD-PB-1X3 include keypad, call button, prox, or cellular modules?
No. Treat the MOD-PB-1X3 as the shell and mounting plate assembly only unless the product listing specifically states that modules are included. Keypad, call button, speaker, prox, cellular, and video modules are separate parts.
Does the AES MOD-PB-1X3 include the gooseneck or post?
Do not assume the gooseneck, post, concrete base, conduit, or mounting hardware is included unless the product listing specifically states it. Confirm package contents before ordering for a new installation.
