EMX TRES-900-HT Hang Tag Compatibility and Ordering Details
The EMX TRES-900-HT is a removable passive UHF RFID credential for automatic vehicle identification, gated access, parking management, fleet entrances, and other vehicle-access applications. It hangs from the vehicle's rear-view mirror and is read by a compatible EMX Patriot UHF RFID reader.
The tag does not require a replaceable battery. A compatible reader supplies the radio-frequency energy needed for the tag to return its programmed credential information.
Important Part Number Suffixes
TRES-900-HT identifies the general EMX hang-tag family. The complete part number is needed to identify the tag size, graphics, and printed-number configuration.
| Part Number | Documented Configuration |
| TRES-900-HT350-C | Custom-graphics passive UHF hang tag measuring approximately 3.50 x 3.50 x 0.003 inches |
| TRES-900-HT600-C | Custom-graphics passive UHF hang tag measuring approximately 6.0 x 2.125 x 0.04 inches |
| TRES-900-HT600-G | Passive UHF hang tag with generic EMX graphics, approximately 6.0 x 2.125 x 0.04 inches |
| TRES-900-HT600-GN | Passive UHF hang tag with generic EMX graphics and no printed number, approximately 6.0 x 2.125 x 0.04 inches |
| TRES-900-HT600-W | Plain-white passive UHF hang tag without standard graphics, approximately 6.0 x 2.125 x 0.04 inches |
The base TRES-900-HT number does not establish the graphics, printed numbering, electronic credential encoding, or package quantity. Confirm the complete suffix and order details before purchasing.
What the Hang Tag Does
A compatible Patriot reader transmits UHF radio energy into the vehicle lane. The passive hang tag receives that energy and returns its stored credential data. The reader then sends the decoded information to an access controller or applies the reader's configured tag-filtering function.
The access-control system determines whether the credential is authorized based on its format, facility code, credential number, assigned access level, schedule, and reader location. The hang tag does not contain an internal gate relay, user database, or access schedule.

- EMX PATRIOT-MR mid-range UHF RFID reader
- Select legacy EMX Patriot readers specifically configured for compatible UHF EPC Gen2 credentials
Exact compatibility depends on the reader's regional frequency, firmware, enabled tag format, credential encoding, Wiegand configuration, facility code, and connected access controller.
Frequency and Credential Format
The TRES-900-HT family is intended for compatible North American EMX Patriot readers operating in the 902-928 MHz UHF band. Patriot reader documentation identifies compatible hang tags as UHF EPC Gen2 credentials.
Frequency compatibility alone is not enough. The credential data must also match the reader and access-control system.
Verify the following before ordering:
- Patriot reader model
- Regional reader frequency
- Credential data format
- Wiegand bit length
- Facility or site code
- Starting credential number
- Ending credential number
- Printed number requirements
- Existing access-control database
Credential Encoding Warning
A tag may be detected by the Patriot reader but still be rejected by the access controller. This commonly occurs when the tag uses the wrong Wiegand format, facility code, credential number, or electronic encoding.
Do not order a large tag quantity based only on the appearance of an existing hang tag. Verify the electronic credential data and reader settings first.
Removable Vehicle Credential
Unlike a permanently bonded windshield tag, the TRES-900-HT can be removed from the rear-view mirror and transferred when permitted by the property's access policy.
The ability to move the tag does not automatically mean that sharing is authorized. Property managers may assign each credential to a specific resident, employee, vehicle, account, or parking permit.
Do not leave the tag where it blocks the driver's view. Position or remove it as required to comply with applicable vehicle and windshield-obstruction rules.
Required Vertical Orientation
EMX specifies that hang tags must hang vertically from the rear-view mirror. Do not rotate the tag sideways or place it flat on the dashboard.
Vertical orientation is especially important with the linear-polarized PATRIOT-L reader. The PATRIOT-L is designed to read vertically oriented credentials.
The circular-polarized PATRIOT-E can read compatible credentials in more than one orientation, but a TRES-900-HT should still hang vertically as intended.
Reader and Tag Alignment
For best performance, the face of the reader and the broad face of the hang tag should remain as parallel as practical when the vehicle enters the read zone. A severe reader angle or a tag turned edge-on toward the reader can reduce range.
Vehicle windshield angle, rear-view mirror position, driver-side versus passenger-side reader placement, and the direction of travel should be considered when aiming the reader.
Expected Read Range
Read range is determined by the complete reader-and-tag system rather than the hang tag alone. EMX publishes an average site-dependent range of approximately 18-25 feet for PATRIOT-E and PATRIOT-L readers and approximately 6-10 feet for the PATRIOT-MR.
These distances should not be guaranteed at every installation. Actual range can be affected by:
- Reader model and RF power setting
- Tag encoding and construction
- Vertical tag orientation
- Reader mounting height and angle
- Vehicle windshield angle
- Nearby metal or concrete
- RF reflections and adjacent lanes
- Electrical interference
- Vehicle speed
- Tag damage or modification
Testing the Vehicle Lane
Test a programmed production tag with each reader before distributing the full credential order. Drive the vehicle through the lane and verify reliable operation at both the first intended read point and the normal stopping point.
The credential should still read where the vehicle will wait if the gate has not opened. A tag that reads only after the vehicle passes the intended stopping position may require reader repositioning, aiming, RF adjustment, or a different lane layout.

Installation and Service Notes
Hang the credential vertically from the rear-view mirror with the broad face directed as parallel as practical toward the reader as the vehicle approaches.
Do not cut, punch, drill, laminate, fold, or otherwise modify the RFID portion of the tag unless the modification is specifically approved by EMX. Physical damage can reduce range or make the credential unreadable.
Keep the tag away from loose metal objects, liquids, and positions where it is pressed against the windshield or dashboard without testing. Store unused tags in a clean, dry location and protect them from bending or crushing.
Technician Note
A Patriot reader that beeps but does not open the gate may be detecting the hang tag correctly. Check the Wiegand format, facility code, credential enrollment, access schedule, reader assignment, controller wiring, gate relay, and operator input before replacing the tag.
If range is poor with one vehicle, confirm that the tag hangs vertically and faces the reader. Also check the rear-view mirror position, windshield angle, reader side of the lane, RF power, reader aiming, and nearby metal or concrete.
Professional Advisory
The TRES-900-HT is an access credential, not a vehicle-presence or safety device. It must not replace loop detectors, photo eyes, safety edges, monitored inputs, emergency access equipment, fire access, or other required gate-safety devices.
