Miller Edge MWRTA12B Single-Channel Wireless System Technical Details
The Miller Edge MWRTA12B is a single-channel, non-monitored wireless sensing-edge system for select motorized commercial doors and automated vehicular gates. The kit combines an MWR12B receiver with an MWTA12B transmitter featuring an audible low-battery alarm.
The MWTA12B mounts near the moving sensing edge and transmits edge-activation signals to the MWR12B receiver. This eliminates the moving coil cord, retracting reel, or hard-wired connection that would otherwise run between the sensing edge and operator.
What the MWRTA12B System Does
The MWTA12B transmitter connects to a compatible 2-wire normally open sensing edge. When the edge is compressed, its contact closes and the transmitter sends a 318 MHz wireless signal to the MWR12B receiver.
The receiver then changes its normally open or normally closed relay output so the connected operator can provide its programmed stop or reverse response. The receiver includes power and relay-status indicators for setup and troubleshooting.
Confirmed Kit Components
- MWR12B: Single-channel non-monitored wireless sensing-edge receiver
- MWTA12B: Wireless transmitter with audible low-battery alarm
- Batteries: Two AA 1.5V lithium batteries
- Mounting hardware: Four transmitter mounting screws
The sensing edge, receiver mounting hardware, operator connection wire, antenna coax, bulkhead adapter, and installation tools are not included.
Compatible With
- Miller Edge 2-wire normally open, non-monitored sensing edges
- Select commercial and industrial door operators accepting a non-monitored relay input
- Select automated vehicular gate operators accepting a non-monitored relay input
- Applications requiring a single wireless sensing-edge transmitter
- Operators providing compatible 12-24 VAC/DC accessory power
Exact operator compatibility depends on the manufacturer, complete model number, production date, control-board generation, required N.O. or N.C. input, and current operator manual.
Single-Channel Receiver Configuration
The MWR12B is a single-channel receiver designed to operate with one compatible MWT12B or MWTA12B transmitter. The receiver and transmitter coding switches must be set to matching patterns.
The MWR12B is normally supplied as part of the MWRT12B or MWRTA12B complete system and is not currently listed by Miller Edge as a separately sold receiver.
Normally Open and Normally Closed Outputs
The MWR12B receiver provides normally open and normally closed relay output options. The receiver common and selected output wire must be connected to the operator input specified by the operator manufacturer.
A terminal labeled EDGE, SAFETY, REVERSE, N.O., N.C., or COMMON does not automatically confirm compatibility. The operator must permit a non-monitored dry-contact device for the intended function.
Audible Low-Battery Alarm
The MWTA12B transmitter includes an audible alarm that activates when approximately 25 percent of battery power remains. Miller Edge rates the alarm at approximately 80-95 dB measured at 2 feet.
- Battery requirement: Two AA 1.5V lithium batteries
- Expected battery life: Approximately two years under normal conditions
- Alarm function: On-site warning that transmitter batteries require replacement
Battery life varies with temperature, activation frequency, battery age, storage conditions, and alarm operation. Replace both batteries as a matched pair and observe the marked polarity.
Important Non-Monitored Compatibility Warning
MWRTA12B is a non-monitored system. It does not provide 10K resistance, 8.2K resistance, diode-capacitor monitoring, pulsed monitoring, wireless supervision, or proprietary monitored communication.
Miller Edge generally identifies this product family for non-monitored commercial door operators manufactured before August 2010, non-monitored automated vehicular gate operators manufactured before January 2016, or secondary detection where permitted.
These dates are general product-selection guidelines and do not guarantee compatibility. Never use MWRTA12B to bypass a monitored safety input or replace required monitored entrapment protection.
Binary and Trinary Coding Warning
Current MWRTA12B systems manufactured after April 2024 use a 9-pole, 2-position binary coding switch. Earlier MWRTA12 systems used a 3-position trinary coding switch and are identified as discontinued.
Miller Edge permits binary and trinary equipment to communicate when the coding switches are mapped according to the current addendum. Additional setup is required, so the current B-suffix system should not be represented as a direct plug-and-play replacement for every older MWRTA12 installation.

Technician Note
The advertised 100-foot range applies only under optimal conditions. Metal doors, gate frames, operator cabinets, structural steel, nearby 318 MHz equipment, antenna placement, and lack of clear line of sight can reduce usable range.
Place the receiver antenna outside metal enclosures and in line of sight with the transmitter throughout the complete door or gate travel. The transmitter strain-relief fitting should point downward in damp or outdoor applications.
Do not drill or modify the NEMA 4 transmitter enclosure. Modification can reduce environmental protection and void the manufacturer warranty.

Installation and Safety Advisory
Disconnect operator power before wiring the receiver. Installation, coding, edge connection, antenna placement, receiver wiring, and final testing must follow current Miller Edge instructions and the operator manufacturer manual.
Never bypass a monitored safety input, jumper an entrapment-protection circuit, or use MWRTA12B to conceal a sensing-edge fault. Test the sensing edge near both ends and at the center after installation and during regular maintenance.
A qualified commercial door, gate, garage door, or low-voltage technician should complete the work when the coding generation, receiver output, operator input, antenna setup, or required safety configuration is unclear.
Product Questions & Answers
What is included with the Miller Edge MWRTA12B system?
The kit includes one MWR12B single-channel receiver, one MWTA12B transmitter with low-battery alarm, two AA 1.5V lithium batteries, and four transmitter mounting screws.
What sensing edge is required for MWRTA12B?
The MWTA12B transmitter requires a 2-wire normally open, non-monitored sensing edge. It is not intended for 10K, DC/T3, pulsed, or other monitored edge configurations.
Is MWRTA12B a monitored wireless edge system?
No. MWRTA12B is non-monitored and must not replace supervised entrapment protection when the operator requires a monitored safety device.
What outputs does the MWR12B receiver provide?
The receiver provides normally open and normally closed relay output options. Use only the output approved for the exact operator and control-board generation.
When does the MWTA12B low-battery alarm activate?
The audible alarm activates when approximately 25 percent battery power remains. Miller Edge rates the alarm at approximately 80-95 dB measured at 2 feet.
What is the wireless range of MWRTA12B?
The system may operate up to 100 feet under optimal conditions. Metal enclosures, structural steel, antenna placement, and radio interference can reduce actual range.
Can MWRTA12B replace an older MWRTA12 system?
MWRTA12B uses current 2-position binary coding, while the discontinued MWRTA12 uses 3-position trinary coding. Mixed-generation operation requires additional coding setup, so it is not a direct plug-and-play replacement.
Can the MWR12B receiver be ordered separately?
Miller Edge identifies the MWR12B as the single-channel receiver supplied in MWRT12B and MWRTA12B kits and states that it is not sold separately.
