Transmitter Solutions 318LIPW2V Stingray 318 MHz Linear Compatibility Details
The Transmitter Solutions TRARAY318LIPW2V is the Gate Openers Unlimited catalog SKU for the Stingray transmitter identified by Transmitter Solutions as model 318LIPW2V. This is a programmable two-button visor transmitter operating at 318 MHz for compatible Linear radio and access control applications.
Transmitter Solutions specifically identifies the 318LIPW2V as compatible with Linear MCT-2 and MDT-2 transmitter applications. The transmitter uses a factory-set sequence number and facility code and must be programmed into compatible system memory. It is not a DIP-switch transmitter.
What This Transmitter Does
The 318LIPW2V sends an individually numbered 318 MHz wireless credential to a compatible receiver. The transmitter provides two blue buttons identified in the manufacturer manual as Button A and Button B.
The receiver or access control system determines the authorized function assigned to each button. Two physical buttons do not automatically mean the transmitter controls two gates or that every receiver supports two separate relay outputs.
Before replacing an existing transmitter, record what each current button operates and identify the installed receiver or controller.
All Verified Compatibility and Applications
- Linear MCT-2 transmitter applications.
- Linear MDT-2 transmitter applications.
- Compatible 318 MHz programmable telephone entry systems using the same supported transmitter credential protocol.
- Compatible 318 MHz security systems using the same supported transmitter credential protocol.
- Compatible 318 MHz access control systems using the same supported transmitter credential protocol.

Linear MCT-2 Compatibility
The current Transmitter Solutions product page and exact 318LIPW2V cut sheet specifically identify Linear MCT-2 compatibility.
Linear documents the original MCT-2 as a MegaCode digital transmitter for automatic garage and gate operator applications. The original Linear transmitter does not use a conventional coding switch. Its unique digital code is learned into compatible receiver memory.
Linear's original MCT-2 documentation also shows a specific multi-button code arrangement: the left button sends Code 1, the right button sends Code 2, and pressing both buttons sends Code 3.
Transmitter Solutions identifies the 318LIPW2V as MCT-2 compatible, but the Stingray manual does not separately describe the original MCT-2 simultaneous two-button Code 3 function. Verify the required third-code or combined-button operation when the existing installation uses that feature.
Linear MDT-2 Compatibility
Transmitter Solutions also specifically identifies Linear MDT-2 compatibility for the 318LIPW2V.
Linear has documented multiple MDT transmitter generations and suffixes. Applicable Linear MDT-2 documentation includes multi-channel visor transmitter designs with button arrangements that differ from the two-button Stingray housing.
Do not match an MDT replacement by the "MDT-2" name alone. Record the complete transmitter label, including any A or B suffix, and verify which transmitter channels or buttons are used by the installed receiver or access controller.
Factory-Set Facility Code and Sequence Number
The Transmitter Solutions Stingray manual states that each 318LIPWxV transmitter is manufactured and sold with a different factory-set sequence number and facility code.
The transmitter facility code and sequence number must be programmed into compatible system memory. This is different from opening an older fixed-code transmitter and copying DIP-switch positions.
The manufacturer documents a 16-bit security code providing 65,536 code combinations and a 4-bit facility-code field providing up to 16 facility codes.
For an HOA, gated community, apartment property, commercial facility, parking application, or other managed access system, confirm the required facility code and transmitter-number arrangement before ordering additional transmitters.
26-Bit System Application Caution
The Transmitter Solutions manual describes each transmitter as individually numbered and documents operation with compatible receivers capable of receiving the supported 26-bit input and access control systems equipped with the same protocol.
The exact model cut sheet also describes Wiegand 26-bit programmable telephone entry, anti-burglar, and access control applications.
Do not interpret this as universal compatibility with every control panel that has a 26-bit Wiegand input. The installation also requires a compatible 318 MHz radio receiver that recognizes the Stingray transmitter credential protocol. A Wiegand input by itself does not receive a 318 MHz wireless transmitter.
318 MHz Range and Radio Performance
The manufacturer documents AM/ASK modulation and a free-space transmitter range of 60 to 120 yards. Actual installed range may be lower because of receiver antenna placement, metal operator cabinets, buildings, radio interference, and other site conditions.
If an existing transmitter suddenly operates only from close to the receiver, check the 23A battery and receiver antenna condition before assuming the transmitter protocol or model has changed.
Two-Button Stingray Configuration
The Transmitter Solutions 318LIP transmitter manual identifies two Stingray visor models:
- 318LIPW1V - one-button Stingray transmitter with blue Button A.
- 318LIPW2V - two-button Stingray transmitter with blue Buttons A and B.
The exact 318LIPW2V is the two-button version. Verify both existing transmitter functions before changing to the one-button model.
Similar Parts Are Not Automatically Interchangeable
318LIPW1V is the related one-button Stingray visor transmitter. Transmitter Solutions identifies that model with Linear MCT-1 and MDT-1 compatibility. Do not substitute the one-button version when the system requires both transmitter buttons.
TRALUN318LIPW2K-C is a Luna two-button 318 MHz Linear-compatible keychain transmitter. It is a separate product family with a different housing, battery system, and credential documentation. Do not automatically treat the Luna and Stingray as the same packaged product.
318DOPW2V is a Stingray 318 MHz two-button transmitter documented for DoorKing MicroCLIK-compatible applications. The DOP and LIP suffixes identify different protocol applications. Do not substitute the DOP version for the Linear-compatible LIP model based only on frequency and button count.
Linear ACT-22B is a separate 318 MHz block-coded key-ring transmitter application. Transmitter Solutions specifically identifies the Luna TRALUN318LIPW2K-C with ACT-22B compatibility. Do not assume the Stingray 318LIPW2V is an ACT-22B replacement when its exact manufacturer documentation specifically lists MCT-2 and MDT-2.
318 MHz DIP-switch transmitters are not automatic replacements for the programmable 318LIPW2V. Match the complete transmitter model and receiver protocol before ordering.

Manufacturer Current-Consumption Documentation Difference
The exact 318LIPW2V model cut sheet lists current consumption as 20 mA. The Transmitter Solutions 318LIPWxV family manual lists current consumption as 25 mA.
Because the manufacturer's own documents do not agree, do not use the published current-consumption figure as a compatibility identifier. Frequency, transmitter protocol, model number, facility code, and receiver requirements are the important ordering checks.

Package and Battery Check
The manufacturer specifies one 12V type 23A alkaline battery as the transmitter power source and identifies the product as a visor transmitter. The public manufacturer documentation does not clearly list every current retail package component or specifically confirm a fresh battery or separate visor accessory in every package. Confirm current package contents when those items are specifically required.
Technician Note
The biggest ordering mistake with the 318LIPW2V is matching only "318 MHz" and "2 button." Check the LIP model family and the original Linear transmitter application. Transmitter Solutions specifically documents MCT-2 and MDT-2 compatibility. Do not substitute a DOP MicroCLIK model, a DIP-switch transmitter, or an ACT-22B replacement based only on frequency. When replacing an MCT-2, also verify whether the existing receiver uses the original simultaneous two-button Code 3 function because that operation is not separately documented in the Stingray manual.

Programming and Service Notes
The transmitter facility code and factory-set sequence number must be programmed into compatible system memory. Use the enrollment procedure for the exact installed receiver, telephone entry system, or access control platform.
Do not attempt to program the 318LIPW2V by copying DIP-switch positions. The transmitter does not use a DIP-switch code bank.
The manufacturer specifies one 12V type 23A alkaline battery. Battery access is through the sliding battery door. Install the battery with the polarity shown in the transmitter enclosure. The red LED should illuminate when either transmitter button is pressed.
If the transmitter LED does not illuminate, the manufacturer troubleshooting information directs the user to replace the transmitter battery. If the LED is on but the system does not receive the signal, verify that the transmitter is programmed into the system. Reduced operating range is also a manufacturer-listed reason to replace the battery.
Professional Advisory
Do not bypass photo eyes, monitored safety edges, entrapment protection, emergency access, fire access, garage door reversal systems, or operator safety circuits while troubleshooting a transmitter or receiver problem. Unclear receiver wiring, Wiegand interfaces, gate operator inputs, garage door controls, or access control electrical faults should be inspected by a qualified gate, garage door, or access control technician.
